Dr. Ronaldo Calonje is a physician working at South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care in Tamarac, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Calonje attended Miami-Dade College, where he studied psychology. After graduating from this institution with honors, he studied microbiology and immunology at the University of Miami. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Sciences. Dr. Calonje attended medical school at Autonomous School of Medical Sciences in Costa Rica. After returning to the United States, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
Since he began practicing sports medicine, Dr. Calonje has covered many events, including amateur boxing, professional boxing, WNBA basketball, mixed martial arts, the Chicago Marathon, Florida State University Athletics, special Olympics, F.I.U. Athletics, University of Miami Athletics, and more. He has served as Medical Director of South Florida Sports Medicine and Primary Care since 2011.
Dr. Calonje was born in Managua, Nicaragua. His father is a retired pediatrician who practiced for 20 years in Miami, Florida. His brother is an OB/GYN currently practicing at St. Alexius Medical Center in Illinois.
