Job Summary: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients and to do so in a way that instills confidence in the treatment. Demonstrate ophthalmic technician skills. Travel to the Fairhope and Mobile locations are required monthly. Education and experience: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. One to Five years’ experience in an optometry or ophthalmology practice preferred, but not required. 3. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician or Certified Medical Assistant (preferred but not mandatory). Essential Tasks: 1. Analytical with problem-solving skills. 2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 3. Strong organization with attention to detail. 4. Basic understanding of algebraic math. 5. Demonstrated computer literacy. RESPONSIBILITIES: Communication & Patient Care: · Acquaint all new patients with the procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all test personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests. · Obtain patient history to included chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general) and history of allergies and medications. · Familiar with or willing to learn how to: ·Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurements tasks to include A-scans and medications. · Perform OCT’s · Perform Humphrey Visual Fields · Perform contact lens I&R’s when contact lens technician is not available · Perform fundus photography · Perform Refractions · Assessment of pupils, confrontation fields and anterior chamber depth. · Topography · BAT (Brightness Acuity Test) · Super Pinhole · Tonopen · Goldman Applanation · Pachymetry · Neutralizing glasses prescription · Scribing/accurately documentation of exams. · Assisting in minor surgeries · Cleaning, stocking, opening/closing of exam and work up rooms. · Maintaining a clean work area. · Helping and answering questions of other staff members · Helping in other areas of the clinic when needed. -Willing to train the right person that wants to learn. Triage: · Determine which patient should be next to be taken from the waiting room and to start their clinical work up appropriately, initiated the appropriate testing when needed. · Maintain a smooth clinical flow of patients to the physician by following clinical protocol. · Maintain a healthy and good communication with fellow co-workers to facilitate proper patient flow and making every patient feel comfortable. · Return all patient phone calls when needed and answer all questions promptly and accurately. · Determine the importance of emergencies and consult with a physician when needed; schedule emergency appointments accordingly and appropriately. Administrative: · Be well educated in HIPAA, Clinical Quality Measures and MIPS. · Check calibration of equipment routinely. Inform supervisor if any equipment to attention or repair ASAP. · Maintain proper inventory of supplies and inform supervisor of any needed supplies. Physical abilities/requirements: 1. Ability to read fine print, which includes paperwork and the computer screen 2. Ability to manipulate small objects. 3. Ability to bend, stand, squat, type of keyboard for a long period of time.
