Current animals missing owners (Friday 9/11/20) These animals are under our care, receiving our highest level of care and we are covering all fees until they are reunited with the owners. Please call us at (541)-282-7711 if you believe this is your pet. Unfortunately, due to the tremendous volume of emails and messages, we are not monitoring FB direct messages and we are not able to evaluate personal photos. We will need you to come to the facility and view the patient. Don't forget to donate to our GoFundMe so we can push financial resources to area animal rescues and support groups! These organizations are under a tremendous burden and need our support. !00% of funds collected will be distributed within the community and none will be diverted into our operation.
We would like to thank the community for all the love and support we have received regarding the care and attention we are providing for area animals affected by the fires. We will be posting pictures of these patients as often as we can. Since we do not know their names, we will assign them a name based on the location they were found (a suggestion from the audience)! Please stand by while we update our images. We would also like to point out that we are covering 100% of the cost of care for these patients until their owners can be found, at which point they will transfer back to their primary veterinary hospital. Finally, we would like to remind you that if you would like to provide financial assistance, we have set up a GoFundMe account that will be distributed to area rescues and pet support groups that are also struggling to care for lost and injured pets. None of the funds raised will be directed into our own organization. We have been supported by the community for many years and want to take this opportunity to give back. Update 9/9/20 @ 11:30p. We will be operating out of Crater Animal Hospital tonight and returning to our normal facility tomorrow at 9am. We are continuing to triage cases based on medical need and hope to return to more normal operations soon. We have received several feline burn victims from various Good Samaritans and are searching for their owners. We will post additional details about these #kittysurvivors as they progress in their recovery.
In honor of #VeterinaryStaff around the world, Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center, with help from numerous veterinary hospitals around the country, came together to offer this message of thanks and appreciation for the countless veterinary staff members that struggle every day to provide care, love, and attention to sick and injured pets everywhere. The great and amazing world of veterinary medicine could not happen without you all. You are the backbone of what we do. We appreciate your more than you may ever know! Thank you for everything you do. May your rads be crisp and your catheters true. May your hearts beat stronger knowing how much we love you. https://youtu.be/tKhnXDdd77o YOUTUBE.COM Veterinary Staff Appreciation 2020
We need every team member to make our hospital work—and this week is all about our techs and support staff. You are the heart and the backbone of our hospital. Your willingness to show up day after day- often coming in early and staying late is what keeps patients cared for, our doctors able to function, and our hospital open. You matter. What you do matters. We thank each and every one of you for the role you play and all the tears and triumphs we share are only possible because of you.

We just can't stop appreciating our team! "Please accept this humble message of gratitude: Thank you to all our technicians for your skills and expertise on the clinic floor in performing the most specialized diagnostics and providing the most intensive support to our patients. Thank you assistants for providing the care and attention to detail in making sure each of our patients receives the nursing care and diagnostic testing they need for the best outcomes while away from home. Thank you kennel staff for ensuring a safe, sanitary, organized, and comfortable environment for the health and wellbeing of patient and support staff alike. Thank you reception and CSR teams for being the informative and compassionate interface between pet owners and the veterinary medical world as we all navigate through frightening and unknown situations. SOVSC is so fortunate to call everyone here our family and just know nothing here would be the same without each and every team member!"

A big thanks to this guy for donating blood!🩸 The recipient was suffering from an auto immune crisis that was destroying all of his own red blood cells. We stock a lot of blood products at the ER for just this situation, but we don’t always have enough. Blood donor dogs AND cats are literally life savers when we need fresh blood. We are in the process of building a complete collection center that will allow us to collect, prepare, and store blood on site. Once we launch, we’ll be looking for your furry hero to sign up! #sovsc #veterinarymedicine #blooddonor #vetmed #vetmedicine #vettechlife #vettechlife #centralpointoregon #medfordoregon #ashland #jacksonvilleoregon #grantspassoregon #klamathfalls @ Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center
This is not what was meant by “eat plenty of greens!” These three guilty faces were feeling pretty awful after we induced vomiting due to the fact that they had all eaten rat bait! Rodenticide‘s are just as toxic for pets as they are for rodents. Vet techs always find it strangely satisfying when they can productively puke a dog! As you can see from the green pie, we were satisfied! These three housemates were less thrilled about the experience than we were, but thanks to their parents quick response they’re all going to do just fine! #emergencyveterinarian #emergencyvettech #vetmed #rvt #cvt #pawdlife #sovsc @ Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center
IMPORTANT UPDATE Our hospital has entered an Advanced Diversion status due to reduced staff and patient support capabilities stemming from COVID-19 and other seasonal illnesses. As our staff counts are reduced, our ability to provide emergency care is also reduced. In order for us to provide care for the most critically ill patients, with a reduced staff size, we sadly must reduce our patient intake until our staff have recovered. This means that we are only able to see patients with a life-threatening illness. All other patients will be asked to seek care at alternative veterinary facilities. We encourage you to contact your primary veterinary hospital first and check their availability to assist you. We have also compiled a list of alternative emergency facilities in Northern California and Oregon which you can find here: https://www.sovsc.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/ER-Hospitals-List.pdf. We realize these locations are all a few hours away, but please understand that you would be looking at delays of 12+ hours with us as we work through our triage process. For pets with significant injury and illness, a 2 or 3-hour drive is much better than a 12-hour wait. Pets with injury and illness that can wait for several hours or more would by definition NOT be considered life-threatening and will likely not be seen during our Advanced Diversion state as we attend to those patients with immediately life-threatening injuries. At this time, we are still able to triage patients on-site. We will assess your pet as quickly as possible, but we may not be able to come to your car for immediate evaluation based on our staffing and the immediate needs of the patients already under our care. If you do elect to come to our facility, please call ahead to check our Diversion Status and projected wait times. When you arrive, please remain in your vehicle, and call the number posted in our parking lot. Our reception team will ask you some initial questions over the phone and provide this information to our triage teams to further assess your pet and help you decide next steps for you and your pet. This will help determine if we can see your pet and if not help determine your other options. When you are at SOVSC and interacting with our staff, masks are required, and social distancing regulations strictly enforced. Our lobby including our restrooms are closed and we are only allowing 2 people per family in the building strictly for end-of-life situations. We realize that emergency events are highly emotional for owners, but please cooperate with our staff and note that abusive behavior will not be tolerated. We re-evaluate our Diversion Status daily and will provide updates here as often as is appropriate so please keep checking our social media for further updates. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how many more of our staff will become ill or when. We anticipate that we may move in and out of diversion status during the next few weeks to months. If we lose enough staff, we may even be forced to temporarily close for a shift, a day, or as much as 14 days. As these details unfold, we will update our primary-care veterinary practices and post updates here. SOVSC.COM www.sovsc.com
Congratulations to our Internal Medicine patients who have graduated from chemo this year. They kicked cancers butt!!
Lucy came in for a chemo recheck and treatment today- she sat pretty for us in her new Christmas bow. 🥰🎄
Ever wonder who is saving pet lives from 9p to 9a while you are snuggled in your bed? Well here they are...The Amazing Overnighters! Working overnight shifts requires significant commitment. Not only are these people highly skilled technicians, they have committed to living a life in the dark. When you work overnight shifts, you don’t do one or two and then slip back into a daylight routine. Overnight longhaulers convert their entire life, including their families. Many are parents, which means they struggle to see their kids and spouses. It’s a truly difficult world that goes terribly unappreciated. And don’t forget that alongside them are receptionists, doctors, kennel support and many other people that make an ER work. So let’s all take a moment and say thanks for their passion and dedication to veterinary medicine. Without these people, there would be no one to help when tragedy strikes in the late hours of the night. Also shown here are the two overnight supervisors. You can spot them by their four legs, furry coats and holiday appropriate attire! #therealbosses . . . #sovsc #thepawdlife #southernoregon #veterinaryemergency #veterinarymedicine #veterinarytechnician #overnighttech #cvt #rvt @ Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center
Happy Holidays from all of us at the Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center! Please join us in expressing tremendous appreciation and deep gratitude for all our our team, patients, and clients. Evacuations, COVID, and sooo many hard shifts and challenging cases, these amazing warriors keep showing up and saving lives! And to our respected clients, we know a visit to any specialty-ER facility is always scary and intense for the patient and their family, and so appreciate your patience and support. We look forward to normalizing our operations in 2021! Stay safe and stay strong southern Oregon...we’ve got this! Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year! @ Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center (PS...we celebrated with bacon and eggs for our Christmas breakfast!)

Happy 11th Birthday to Lexi, a clinic favorite, who has been coming to see us for 5 years for treatment! She happened to have an appointment yesterday- on her birthday- and we were so happy to be able to give her extra love.

Sending a big CONGRATULATIONS to Polly. We call her Polly Pocket. She graduated chemo yesterday!! We are so happy for her. 🎉❤️✨
Please help us celebrate two milestones for our friend Tedi. Today is his 11th birthday and yesterday he graduated chemo. Woo-hoo! Happy birthday and congratulations!
Here we go! Tonight looks to be heating up. Since we support all the area veterinary hospitals, we tend to get busiest as they start to close for the day. 6p-9p is generally considered one of our busiest times. As you can see, the team’s in motion. From triage to treatment, we can assure you that your pet is in good hands with these incredible ladies (and men)! . . #sovsc #veterinarymedicine #veterinaryemergency #petvet #petemergency #nva #cvt #rvt #vettechlife #vettech #vettechofinstagram #centralpointoregon #medfordoregon #southernoregon #southernoregonlife @ Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center
