At Southwest Dermatology Center, Dr. Martin Safko and his highly-skilled team offer medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology services to patients in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Safko has been been practicing dermatology in Las Vegas since 1986 and serves as the medical director of Southwest Dermatology Center.
Dr. Safko is a well trained and experienced Mohs surgeon, having trained with Dr. Frederic Mohs, the developer of the technique. Mohs is a specialized skin cancer removal method, achieving the highest attainable cure rate. After receiving a grant from the United States Department of Energy, Dr. Safko collaborated with scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory to produce one of the world’s first erbium skin-resurfacing lasers. The device is a specialized type of laser that uses the element erbium to produce a light energy that rejuvenates wrinkled or mildly scarred skin.
Dr. Safko received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and did his internal medicine internship at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He feels enormously grateful to have been trained by many of medicine’s greatest professors, several of whom were Nobel Prize winners.
After completing a research fellowship in immunodermatology, Dr. Safko finished his residency in dermatology at the University of Oregon Health Science Center in Portland, Oregon.
At Southwest Dermatology Center, Dr. Safko does a significant amount of cosmetic laser and non-laser procedures emphasizing noninvasive facial and body-rejuvenating procedures. He feels that his rigorous scientific background gives him an advantage in evaluating new products and procedures so he can separate fact from marketing hype.
Dr. Safko’s innovative techniques have led to features on “Good Morning America” and Canadian Network Television. He’s also formulated his own line of skin care products using natural ingredients with strong antioxidant properties to maintain and rejuvenate the skin in the harsh desert climate of Las Vegas.
