Supporting our community the right way. We are proud to work with them.
CMSH and VOX Productions. Giving to the ones who need it. Support their choice by liking. Here is a message from VOX Productions we just received:
Hi there!
I hope you are doing well and staying sane at home!
As you may have seen on social media, City Market Social House and VOX Productions teamed up to start a non-profit organization focusing on the event and entertainment industry.
In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we started a food bank to help anyone in the event and entertainment industry who has been laid off/furloughed or had their hours reduced. It’s completely free!
I attached two flyers with info so please share with your entire event team (yes! everyone!). They can sign-up via the website: www.eventla.org/services and go through a quick registration process.
We are scheduling pick-ups for Wednesday-Friday this week, and still have grocery kits to give away!
Let me know if you have any questions, and stay healthy!

Stop Annoying Calls
Robocalls
by Arlene Busby
Whether you are at work or at home those annoying calls keep coming. “We have the insurance plan for you!” the recording says. The problem is you did not call anyone about an insurance plan. Perhaps, you filled out a form at an insurance website and now calls keep ringing your phone from Florida, Texas, etc… You are now on a list and your phone will not stop ringing and ringing. These annoying automated calls are called Robocalls.
WHAT IS A ROBOCALL?
A Robocall is a call that uses a computerized auto dialer to deliver a pre-recorded message. An insurance call is just some of the different types of calls you can get. Other types of calls you can receive are political or telemarketing. Robocalls are also used for public service or emergency announcements.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I RECEIVE A ROBOCALL?
When you receive a Robocall you should hang up. You can also go to Recent Calls on your cell phone and block the call. Unfortunately, after blocking they could call you from another phone number. Blocking may be tedious but it is effective if you are patience.
HOW DO I BLOCK A CALL ON A LANDLINE?
Call your phone service provider to see if call blocking is an available feature. Keep in mind that there may be an additional cost to activate this feature. Just follow the instructions your provider gives you to turn on and use the blocking service.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO STOP ROBOCALLS?
You can register your numbers on the national DO NOT CALL List at no cost to you by calling 1-888-383-1222 (voice) or 1-866-290-4236 (TTY). You must call from the phone number you wish to register. You can also register and add your personal wireless phone number to the national Do-Not-Call list at donotcall.gov.
You can also contact the FCC at https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/stop-unwanted-robocalls-and-texts.
Nothing is foolproof but there are steps you can take to reduce the number of Robocalls you receive.

Stalking
By Arlene Busby
One of “the” most important things to remember is that you do not deserve nor have you asked for this to happen to you.
Stalking victims feel frustrated, angry and fear for their lives. Anti-stalking experts agree there is no one course of action that can be taken that will stop the harassment, stalking or possible danger to a victim.
You are not alone
One of the biggest emotional issues for victims is the feeling of isolation. Remember YOU ARE NOT ALONE. It is important for your safety to make those around you aware of your situation. Here are a few safety tips.
Inform your loved ones:
Tell your family, and friends what is happening. Give them as much information as possible such as, a picture, make, model and license number of the stalker’s transportation.
Bring your landlord/manager, neighbors, employer and co-workers into the loop. The more people on alert can help warn you about your stalker and, if necessary, testify against the stalker in court.
First and foremost, have no contact with your stalker.
DO NOT confront your stalker. Stalkers crave attention so as frustrating as it may be for you and those you know it is best that no one challenge, approach or acknowledge the stalker. Let those around you know that any form of contact positive or negative will encourage this person. They will take any acknowledgement as re-enforcement of their feelings. So, if you or someone you know spots your stalker call the police. They are trained to handle this type of situation.
Steps you can take
One of the most common statements victims will say is “why should I change my life”. After all, you did not ask for this to happen to you. It is important to realize that the stalker thrives on knowing where you are at all times. To keep yourself safe you will have to make changes to your routine on a regular basis.
Tips:
• Change your routine. Do not travel from destination to destination using the same route. Vary the time you leave and return,
• If you jog, bike or walk try a new area. In other words, if it’s Tuesday it must be jogging in the park across from your residence day, NOT!
• While driving keep your doors locked, and when possible do not travel alone.
• Stalkers love your workplace. They know that you will arrive and depart on a regular schedule. Talk to your employer. Arrange to have a flexible work schedule.
• NEVER walk to your vehicle alone. If, your employer, or office building have security ask the officer to accompany you to your transportation. You may also ask fellow employees or the parking attendance to help as well.
• DO NOT answer the phone unless you know who it is. Let your voicemail pick-up the call. NEVER return a call if you do not know whom the number belongs to.
• If you do not know who is at your door under no circumstance OPEN THE DOOR.
• Secure outside electrical and phone boxes with a lock to keep your stalker from flipping circuit breakers or tamper with phone lines.
• Make sure all your keys are accounted for. If you cannot account for all your keys replace your locks and add a deadbolt.
• If you have a home with a garage be sure to park your car in it. A very common trait of stalkers is to slash tires. If you live in an apartment arrange with your landlord to park in a well-lighted, visually open area so that your car is visible to other people in the complex or street.
• When leaving or arriving from your home or office always check for unfamiliar cars or persons.
• Keep a CELLULAR PHONE handy at all times.
• Contact all your utility companies and have all your accounts coded with a password. Stalkers have been known to call and have phone, gas, electric, and water turned off simply by placing a call.
• Do not throw any information in your trash such as bills, junk mail and personal mail.
• Familiarize yourself with the location of the police station, sub-stations, fire departments, hospitals, all night convenient stores, in the event you need immediate assistance.
• MOST IMPORTANTLY obtain an Injunction Against Harassment or an Order of Protection. Warning: by getting a restraining order you may anger your stalker. Stalkers have been known to retaliate. According to the Department of Justice, 70% of stalkers violate such orders. However, the order of protection arms you with a legal right to have your stalker arrested if the order is violated.
• Be sure to always carry your legal paperwork with you along with proof that the order has been served. One of the most often asked questions by police officers is “Do you have a restraining order”? The officer’s hands are tied if a protection order has not been issued. Most times the police can only warn off the stalker instead of arresting them when such an order has not been declared. Although the order is just a piece of paper the police are more likely to take your situation more seriously when charges can be filed.
• Make sure that friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and your landlord have a copy of your restraining order.
Mostly it’s all about being aware. Even though you have not asked nor do you deserve to be in such a situation it is up to you to take aggressive steps to keep yourself safe.
