As winter approaches, some of our clients in snow-packed regions may see icicles forming along their gutter systems. This is because in sub-freezing regions, water can flash-freeze on metal. Prior to metal micromesh guard installation, water will often freeze inside gutters and downspouts, sight unseen. With the addition of the Spartan Guard (and any micromesh guard on the market), the mesh will sometimes freeze and ice melt will flow over the guard, resulting in icicles.
But never fear! The sun will melt the icicles and ice/water will move often faster than they would have if the gutter was unprotected. Ice that is exposed to the sunshine tends to melt faster than ice trapped in a gutter. But if icicles are a concern, we recommend having them safely knocked down.
