Rebuilding urban infrastructure, Downtown Birmingham, MI
An important goal for Cities is to identify failing infrastructure early and address it before it becomes an even bigger problem.
The primary element of the $7 million Maple road redevelopment project that we are just finishing in our downtown is the needed upgrade of the underground utilities, sewer, water, technology, etc..
Here are a few pics from the other day, showing some of the mess of pipes that have been extracted from the underground. And some of the new pieces that will soon be serving our community.
This is part of Rebuilding and enhancing a 200 year old city to keep it viable today. Ugly, messy and costly...but very important and necessary.
Plan well and implement.

From November 27th through December 24th,
visitors can view magnificent, beautifully decorated trees in restaurants and retail locations throughout downtown Birmingham and vote for their favorite tree by donating online. 100% of donations will go directly to local foster teens to use toward their future when they turn 18.

Retail windows at Christmas, Downtown Birmingham, MI
On one of my late night/early morning walks this week thru town, I took these photos of some of the beautiful retailers’ windows...decorated in full, for this festive season
These retailers have many great things pointing in the right direction....they are located in a traditional downtown, in a mixed-use, highly walkable environment, a people oriented shopping district, many are located in historic, urban buildings, they are directly on a sidewalk and mixed in with plenty of terrific restaurants and cafes...with almost no (should be none) ground floor retail spaces used as offices
These retailers also have tasteful and thoughtful signage, well designed storefront elements and CLEAR glass windows, a critical urban element that makes for the best storefronts, allowing pedestrians to see the products inside as clearly as possible.
Great design, thoughtful planning and implementing, makes for a terrific retail district and shopping experience

Shout out to Rick for his steadfast support of the Birmingham St. Croix Shop. He is our lifeline and without him we would shrivel on the vine.
Rick’s determination and enthusiasm compliments ours in understanding it does not matter if it’s a first time customer or a reoccurring “business titan” the focus is all about taking care of the customer.
For example, yesterday I had a special order request for 28 black quarter zips this would not have been possible if it weren’t for Rick’s “behind the scenes” to make it happen especially for product that is not in the system nor manufactured.

Shout out to Rick for his steadfast support of the Birmingham St. Croix Shop. He is our lifeline and without him we would shrivel on the vine.
Rick’s determination and enthusiasm compliments ours in understanding it does not matter if it’s a first time customer or a reoccurring “business titan” the focus is all about taking care of the customer.
For example, yesterday I had a special order request for 28 black quarter zips this would not have been possible if it weren’t for Rick’s “behind the scenes” to make it happen especially for product that is not in the system nor manufactured.
