Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is ranked as the 21st-busiest airport in North America for aircraft operations and 23rd in passengers by Airport Council International in 2003. It has a $5 billion annual economic impact on the St. Louis region. The airport sits on approximately 2,100 acres of land and anticipates acquiring an additional 1,500 acres through its expansion program that will be completed in 2006. Lambert has more than 80 gates serving 10 major airlines. It also has 15 commuter airlines, five on-site air cargo airlines and two major charter companies that use Lambert on a regular basis. In 2004, there were more than 283,00 aircraft operations and approximately 14 million passengers at Lambert, with approximately 750 average daily arrivals and departures. Lambert employs more than 15,000 people through airlines, vendors, service companies and the city of St. Louis. The airport is owned and operated by the city.
