Our Middle School is for girls in grades sixth through eighth. During these years, our students are beginning to develop into confident, intellectual young women. At the same time, they do so with the vibrancy and enthusiasm of young girls.
An extremely dedicated faculty work hard each day to challenge our students to become the readers, writers and thinkers, the budding artists, scientists, and historians they will need to be for the Upper School and beyond.
Yet while we take what we do seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously. Middle School, after all, should be a time of opportunity. A time to try a new sport. To learn how to play an instrument. To forge friendships which can last a lifetime.
By the time our girls are ready to move on, they have an inkling of who they are as young adults and what passions they wish to pursue in the years ahead.
Our Upper School is for girls in grades ninth through twelfth. In keeping with the mission of St. Mary's, the Upper School strives to provide a superior educational experience for our girls while encouraging and enabling each girl to reach her individual potential. Our dedicated faculty recognizes and respects the unique ways in which girls learn best, teaching an academically rigorous curriculum while simultaneously going beyond the classroom walls to provide "real life" experiences. As they become lifelong learners, the students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and independently.
We feel strongly that each girl’s program of study is as unique as she is. Every year, we meet one-on-one with each girl and her family to discuss course options that best fit her interests, goals, and extracurricular life. All students must enroll in 5 academic subjects that meet the requirements for each grade, but they also have the opportunity to add a wide-range of non-academic and elective courses, both online and face-to-face. Our goal is to create a program of study that provides the appropriate level of challenge for each girl.
As a result of the extensive academic, athletic, artistic, and community-service opportunities that are available, our students become confident leaders who have a positive influence on their community.
Because St. Mary’s is a college preparatory school, all of our courses are designed to prepare students for college. Although these courses reflect the rigorous curricular requirements for students entering college today, they are taught at appropriate developmental levels for high school students.
