BPD officers lined State St leading to the medical examiner's office to pay their respects while a fallen first responder from the county was brought in around 11:45pm on June 29th.
Details are unknown at this time but we will update them as they are verified.

Earlier this week someone made their way up Lakeway Avenue breaking the storefront glass on several businesses including the neighborhood 7-Eleven.
Not sure of the motive. Not sure if this was a political statement or done to further some other poorly executed agenda.
Anyone who has stepped into Jack Padia’s 7-Eleven store is always met with a smile and a warm greeting. Our family has gotten to know Jack over the years after moving into the neighborhood and just like any of the other countless customers that step through his door on a regular basis we have loved our daily talks while filling up on coffee or Diet Coke. Even though we’ve moved we still stop in on a regular basis to catch up, sharing stories about family and the latest adventures.
Insurance won’t be covering the $1400 replacement costs for his storefront. That’ll come out of Jack’s pocket.
Let’s not condone crazy in our neighborhood even though crazy seems to be the norm at the moment.
Please consider taking a moment as you head down Lakeway and stop in to see Jack and his staff, letting them know that they are a valued part of our community and neighborhood.

On this day in 1961, John and Mary Smrekar lost their home of 34 years when their house at 2429 Henry St. in Bellingham was struck by lightning. The one room that survived relatively intact was the kitchen, where the Smrekars happened to be sitting at the time. Fire officials believed an ungrounded TV antenna may have attracted the lightning. This Jack Carver photo was carried nationally by the Associated Press.

The Asian Giant Hornet eradication crew, which included WSDA, USDA and, oddly enough, the Discovery Channel, went to work in the wee hours of the morning to neutralize a nest in the Blaine area. The nest, which was located in a tree trunk, was sealed, vacuumed and then injected with carbon dioxide to asphyxiate whatever remained in the cavity. The nest will later be removed and dissected for further study by entomologists. Special thanks to the property owners, Jamie and his family, for being gracious hosts to the crew (and many curious neighbors).
