The Plant City EDC can confirm that a Florida based real estate firm is under negotiations with the current owner of Buddy Freddy’s to purchase the property and re-develop it into a new 4,943 SF Chick-fil-A restaurant.
Our community was saddened to learn of the iconic Buddy Freddy’s decision to close permanently earlier this year. The Plant City EDC has followed the progression of Chick-fil-A’s interest in our community and we are thrilled that we are still being considered.

Side note: As expected I had a bunch of emails/messages telling me it was a big letdown. I made a post last night reminding everyone that Jupiter and Saturn were not going to join to become one massive bright star. Visually, a very bright Mars this summer was more impressive. A Flyover of the Space Station is really cool. I have seen the Northern Lights and they were 10000 x more impressive than this. However, sometimes you have to appreciate the simpleness and the rarity of an event. Not since 1623 has there been a “great conjunction” this close and not since 1226 has such a sight been easily observable and in a post-sunset sky—almost 800 years ago! That in itself is pretty cool and worth admiring!

Today, we celebrate the 136th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Plant City!
In early 1884, Henry Plant connected Plant City to a railroad route that traveled from Sanford to Tampa. The railroad brought with it new business enterprises and a strong interest in developing the unincorporated area we now call Plant City.
On January 10, 1885, registered residents within one-half mile of the center of our town's plotted area (near present-day City Hall), cast their votes to incorporate as the Town of Plant City, 49 to 1. Citrus farmer Jonah Yates was also elected as Plant City's first Mayor, while businessman J.H. Baker became Marshal.
The photo below captures Collins Street in 1925 and offers a very special look at Plant City nearly a century ago. Please join us in wishing a very happy birthday to our beautiful Plant City!

The annual Strawberry Grand Parade will be held on Monday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m.
This year, the parade can be attended in-person or watched via a live stream moderated by Mayor Rick Lott and Bill McDaniel, City Manager. The live stream will be available via multiple Facebook pages including the Florida Strawberry Festival and Berry Fine Productions Inc.
A special pre-show will be live-streamed only starting at 12:30 p.m. The parade will move north along Evers Street, then west on Reynolds Street before it passes the festival grounds.
Please note that roads will be CLOSED along the parade route in stages. The approximate time of closure for each road is available below.
▪️ 10:15 a.m. - Evers Street (south of Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd up to Grant Street)
▪️ 11:30 a.m. - Reynolds Street & Thonotosassa Road (east of Alexander Street to Evers Street)
▪️ 11:30 a.m. - Evers Street (south of Reynolds Street to Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd)
▪️ 12:30 p.m. - Wheeler Street (between Baker Street and Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd)
▪️ 12:30 p.m. - Alexander Street (between Baker Street and Grant Street)
▪️ 12:30 p.m. - Reynolds Street (between Alexander Street and Sammonds Road)
Some local traffic will be allowed in the areas north of Reynolds Street on Alexander Street and south of Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. on Alexander Street (as needed for business purposes).
All roadways will be reopened for normal traffic by 3:00 p.m.

Bruton Memorial Library is offering free take-home craft kits for Big Hands, Little Hands: Tissue Paper Mason Jars on Thursday, March 11.
A child (age 4+) can use tissue paper to decorate mason jars with an adult to create a luminary. The free take-home kits can be picked up from the library located at 302 McLendon Street. If you have questions, please call 813-757-9215.
