We have so much to prepare for this school year. Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe four day weekend and we will see all of you on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
Dear School Age families- I know this has been a whirlwind of a week with the emails and schedules that some of the school districts have put out in regard to remote learning beginning next month. I was in touch with Everett School District and their early learning director today and we discussed what Starbright will need to help the children be successful. First and foremost, we will need hotspots in the Meteorites/Comets class to assist with the internet connection. We have a brick wall between my modem and the classrooms and the only way for the children to be guaranteed a strong bandwidth is with hotspots, ideally with each Chromebook. Kindergarten and First grade children will be using See Saw Canvas and parents will be getting information/training through Parent University. I asked for Starbright staff to also get access to this university so we will know what will be required of the children. I have asked if having a para-educator tutor would be an possibility whether it was daily or as needed as well as some other options from the district. As I said earlier in the summer, Starbright will do the best that we can to accommodate our families, the children, and the schools the best we can. This is an incredibly challenging time and as Everett SD has labeled it; an “Adventure” and it is one we must all go through together. There will most definitely be some bumps in the road and a few changes we will have to made along the way but, if we keep the lines of communication open, we will see our way out of it. Although I have made my voice clear with the district, I am only one, I ask you to contact either your child’s school and/or the district and ask for hotspots and tutors, library book check out options, supplies, and other factors to help make this transition into remote learning easier for all involved. Starbright needs your help to help our teachers and children. (Everett Superintendent Dr. Saltzman (425) 385-4019 Categorized Program Director Dr. Goldman (425) 385-4030). Thank you for your understanding and support while we try to adjust to the new normal. We will wait to have a parent meeting once we have more information to share with everyone. Please, if you have not done so already, let me know if you plan to have your child with us this fall. Have a great weekend. Jen
It's not snowing where you are? Weird! I figured we needed to have a moment where we weren't thinking about Covid-19 and wearing face masks and maybe a little laugh. My computer sent out mass emails and test messages regarding snow closure and snow day from back in February. I am not sure why. If you received it, hopefully it made you smile and brought you back to the days before the pandemic and when a couple of inches of snow and ice on the ground was all that we were worried about! Have a fabulous Tuesday.
Now that Everett School District announced they will start the 2020-2021 school year completely on-line and many other districts are rumored to follow, we need to know how many of our current elementary school aged children will now need all day care. We are in the process of planning what the "school" day will look like with a curriculum and if we will be able to accommodate the individual needs of each child. Please call or see me or Candace if you plan to have you child with us. Once we have a more definite plan, we will have a parent's meeting later in August. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this uncertain time for us all.
As some of you are aware, Governor Inslee had a press conference yesterday and he mandated the state to wear cloth face coverings while in public settings beginning Friday, June 26th. With this mandate he is requiring the masks to be worn by children 5 years and up. Although the teachers at Starbright already wear face coverings, I will not require the children to wear them at this point. There is still much debate about whether this is an age appropriate recommendation and if it is appropriate in a private childcare. For parents of children in the Starlights, Meteorites and Comets classrooms, when we move into phase 3 this summer and begin field trips children will need to wear masks on the trips. As we get closer to mid-August the children will gradually increase the time they wear them during the day so they are prepared for the new guidelines the public schools are requiring. If you have any questions or concerns, please see me or Candace. Thank you for your patience during this time. So many things are changing, sometimes it seems like on a daily basis. Hang on, we will get though this! Take care and stay healthy.
