Dean Edward Ferguson, 70, of Byron, Illinois went home to be with Jesus surrounded by his children on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. Dean was born in Geneva, IL along with his identical twin brother, Gene, on October 24, 1950 to Earl and Helen (Kesselhath) Ferguson making Eileen (Ricketts) a big sister. Dean graduated from Geneva High School in 1969. Dean worked as an auto mechanic for many years and retired in 2012. Dean would happily assist anyone with auto repairs and could diagnose a vehicle issue over the phone by just getting a description of the problem. Dean, like his father before him, fulfilled his life long dream and purchased and ran his own dairy farm in New Richmond, Wisconsin for several years. Dean loved when his family and friends would come visit and they would help out and be a part of his daily life on the farm. In one particular instance his niece, Myrna, never went back home and to this day still lives in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Dean enjoyed spending time with his children and grandbabies. He loved taking walks with a good friend while his grandbabies would play at the park. Dean liked sitting outside while his grandbabies played and sat on his lap and on more than one occasion one of them would fall asleep in his arms, sometimes even Dean would be snoozing. He enjoyed riding his scooter, watching airplanes take off and land at the local airport and flying planes with his twin brother. Dean enjoyed watching sci-fi and western movies. Dean loved to listen to Christian and lite 70’s rock music. You could always count on Dean playing practical jokes trying to scare you just because he loved to see people’s reactions.
Dean lived his life worshipping his Lord and Savior and faithfully attended all church services at Calvary Lighthouse Church bringing many of his grandbabies along with. He enjoyed mowing the church lawn and was always willing to help his fellow church members with vehicle repairs. He even helped his pastor restore two corvettes by standing over the hood saying what needed to be done and making his pastor do all the work. Dean joyfully volunteered wherever he was needed at his church. As his pastor Jim said, “Dean’s handprints are literally all over every surface at church”. Dean was always reading his bible and would send a daily text of a bible verse to family and friends.
Although Dean is already missed, he will live on in all those he has imprinted during his life’s journey.
Dean is survived by his children Tim (Cindy) Ferguson, Connie Ferguson, Cassie (Andy Beam) Ferguson, Shauna (Joe Russo) Ferguson and Mark (Taylor) Ferguson; grandchildren Taylor, Tyler (Sabrina), Ben, Tyler, Katie, Brayden, Natalie, Isaiah, Nick, Paityn, Zack, Payton, Nina, Jaymeson, Anna, Nolan, Waylon; and great-grand-daughter Alaina; Sister Eileen (Tom) Ricketts; sister-in-law Mary Ferguson and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
