What is a PRP Injection? 💉💉
A platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection is an innovative, minimally invasive treatment using a concentration of plasma that is harvested from a patient’s own blood, to help treat many types of sports injuries and achieve profound relief from arthritis, muscle, joint and ligament pain.
The procedure is performed as follows:
1. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient.
2. The blood is placed into a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the red blood cells (pictured).
3. The PRP is transferred into a sterile syringe.
4. Using ultrasound guidance to pinpoint the precise location, your LKO doctor will inject the PRP into the affected or injured area.
The entire process is done in-office and usually takes about 30 minutes. Platelet-rich plasma injection therapy provides patients with a safe and effective treatment option by using the body’s own natural healing process for pain relief, long-lasting healing and the ability to return to a normal, healthy lifestyle faster.

"Comminuted" simply means that there is a break or splinter of the bone into more than two fragments. In Tiger's case, his tibia and fibula were shattered, requiring emergency orthopedic trauma surgery. His team of #OrthopedicSurgeons placed a rod through his tibia with a combination of screws and pins to stabilize the additional bones in the ankle and foot.
