Did you know Saint Anne’s Hospital is the only hospital in the area to use an advanced breast surgery technology called Magseed® that enables doctors to more easily and precisely locate a tumor? This tiny radiation-free seed, about the size of a grain of rice is magnetic and is firmly implanted in minutes days before surgery. On the day of surgery, a magnetic probe is used to detect the Magseed, which guides the surgeon directly to the tumor. Because the magnetic seed sits within the tumor, the surgeon can locate and remove the cancerous area more completely in one operation. This means that fewer patients require a second surgery to remove any remaining cancer.
