Today we pause to remember those we lost 19 years ago on September 11, 2001.
After 172 days, immeasurable grief with moments of joy, and over 500 patients, St. Mary’s General Hospital is happy to announce that today is the first 24-hour period we officially have had no COVID-19 patients. We have reached this milestone solely through the sheer dedication of our nursing teams, medical staff, support services and YOU - the community we proudly serve. It is important to remember that although today is an accomplishment, our work as healthcare providers and YOUR commitment to stopping the spread of virus is not over. Hand hygiene, social distancing and the consistent use of masks is essential in order for us to keep this momentum going. Thank you!

Every year, the American Heart Association
recognizes hospitals that demonstrate commitment to
following treatment guidelines. This is part of ensuring
that all Americans have access to high-quality, safe,
evidence-based care – care that saves lives and
improves patient outcomes. St. Mary's General Hospital is proud to be recognized with the STEMI: Silver Plus, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™. These ranks are included in US News & World Report Magazine.
Hospitals with Silver Plus Receiving are recognized for 75% or higher achievement of First Door-to-Device time of 120
minutes or less for transferred STEMI patients for
one consecutive calendar year.
Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™ is a national honor roll program for hospitals participating in Get With the Guidelines® (HF, Stroke) to reinforce evidence-based guidelines with hospitals that qualify for a Silver level or higher achievement award in the related Get with the Guidelines module.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, anyone who is due for a breast mammogram or sonogram and makes an appointment to have their exam at our Imaging Center will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card and a self-care gift basket. See details.
St. Mary's General Hospital a HEALTHGRADES FIVE-STAR RECIPIENT for 4 Surgical Procedures
In new research released by Healthgrades, St. Mary's General Hospital was awarded 5-star ratings for four surgical procedures:
- Treatment of Heart Failure
- Coronary Interventional Procedures
- Hip Fracture Treatment
- Appendectomy
Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. This analysis shows that patients treated at hospitals receiving a 5-star rating demonstrate exceptional outcomes for their patients, with a lower risk of mortality and a lower risk of experiencing one or more complications during a hospital stay than if they were treated at hospitals receiving a 1-star rating in that procedure or condition.
Healthgrades recognizes hospitals' quality care year round, with these surgical procedure ratings the first for 2021.
Congratulations to our surgical teams in the OR, Cardiac Services, and Orthopedic Services!

This past weekend we welcomed Aurora Renee into the world, at St. Mary's General Hospital's Maternal-Child Center, weighing in at 7 lbs. 15 oz. Baby Aurora is her family's second generation born at St. Mary's General, with her mom born here as well.
The arrival of Baby Aurora was extra special as it marked a homecoming back to St. Mary's General of both her proud parents who are in the US Air Force and stationed in Florida. Our new mom proudly serves as an Airmen First Class, and F15 Crew Chief. Thank you for your service, congratulations on your beautiful baby girl, and welcome home!
Today we celebrate National Pharmacist Day, honoring our very own special group at St. Mary's General and the great impact they have had in the treatment of all our patients. As vital members of the medical care team, pharmacists consistently make a difference in our patients’ lives. Through improving health outcomes, managing complex drug regimens, counseling to ensure patients receive life-saving medication, and with the current coordination of our COVID-19 vaccination clinic, pharmacists have an irreplaceable role here at St. Mary's General.

This month St. Mary's General launched an internal campaign to raise awareness about the safety and importance of the new COVID-19 Vaccine. Featuring various employees and personal quotes, the posters are geared to not only our frontline staff, but those in the healthcare field that may be hesitant to be vaccinated. The COVID-19 Vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer are the only proven defense from the virus, and is currently available to frontline healthcare workers and those who are at high risk of exposure to the virus.
