The fatal accident Friday on 36 reinforces how dangerous that stretch of road is. The amount of traffic has steadily increased, and the unusual intersections combined with highway speeds make me worry that there will be more accidents and more people hurt. Highway 36 between 694 and the Stillwater Bridge must be one of the deadliest stretches of road in the state. It has freeway speed limits despite several non-freeway type intersections. Rather than on/off ramps, some have stoplights; some have “accelerations lanes” which people often use improperly; and some have neither of those. This intersection with the entrance to MYP Landscape Supply being one with nothing. This truck, with an extremely long trailer, apparently crossed over the eastbound lanes, then stopped, BLOCKING the eastbound lanes while waiting to turn left/westbound out of MYP. It was 6:30am, pitch black with bad weather. The unsuspecting driver of an eastbound Honda Civic, traveling at freeway speed as everyone on 36 does, had no chance. This is terrifying. TO ALL DRIVERS ON HIGHWAY 36: SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION.
