Courts around the country, in response to COVID-19, are looking for alternatives to in-person proceedings. The most drastic of these is the use of video-conferencing technology to try and conduct criminal jury trials. This raises a number of significant constitutional issues, including eligibility for jury service, the right to a jury of one's peers, and perhaps most significantly, the right of the accused to confront the witnesses against them. What are your thoughts?

Jury trials in the South Central Judicial District resumed on a regular basis earlier this month. In-person attendance is still restricted, but all trial proceedings are able to be viewed live on the District's YouTube channel, making our courts more open than they've ever been.
