Gratitude is most powerful when it's expressed and there's very little that makes us feel more connected than a heartfelt "thank you." Today, we're deeply grateful for our residents, families, employees, partners and friends and though the pandemic has brought its fair share of trials this year, we feel more connected than ever to each other. Happy Thanksgiving.

We know things are especially hard this year. Family and friends may not be able to physically be together, or to travel for the holidays. Technology has made connecting with each other so much easier – from phone apps to specialized technology like Life Loop, spending time with each other virtually has never been easier. While Elegance communities will be serving traditional Thanksgiving fare of turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy and pumpkin pie, Life Loop has helped us start new traditions to stay connected. A heartfelt thank you to Anna at Symphony at St. Augustine for capturing these wonderful moments of family connection!
Warm holiday memories...Chef Corinne teaches her grandchildren the tricks of her trade - baking. Those cookies sure look scrumptious. Thanks for sharing Corinne - your grandchildren are lovely. #livefullylovefamily

"We may have come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
In a 2017 paper, a group of neuroscientists propose six factors that they think are needed to sustain cognitive development as we grow old. These include a “growth mindset,” the belief that abilities are not fixed but can improve with effort; a forgiving environment that promotes a “not yet” rather than a “cannot” approach; and a habit of learning multiple skills simultaneously. What these elements have in common, the paper’s authors point out, is that they tend to replicate how children learn. “Try recalling what it felt like to learn how to do something new when you didn’t really care what your performance of it said about your place in the world,” Margaret Talbot writes. “It might feel like a whole new beginning.” Read about how the joys—and occasional embarrassments—of being a novice could be an antidote to the strain of being a perfectionist.
