Naturalization Fees: A Poll Tax Hidden in Plain Sight
As of the second week of October, thousands of U.S. resident have been prevented from becoming U.S. citizens in time to meet their states’ voter registration deadlines, thus barring them from voting in the election. As a response, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center and Boundless Immigration published a special report which calls for USCIS to commit to the “expeditious procession of naturalization adjudications.” If USCIS commits to this, approximately 300,000 newly naturalized citizens would be able to vote in the election.

Months ago, Trump announced he would order the Commerce Department to exclude undocumented immigrants from census reporting, which is used to determine state’s seats in the House of Representatives.
Nearly half the states, including several cities and counties, filed suit and compared his move to slavery-era rules that limited which “persons” were counted for political purposes. Nearly 30 amicus briefs were filed on the issues.
The Supreme Court took up the case in October, and is scheduled to hear oral argument on Monday.

NEWS: USCIS Announces a Revised #Naturalization Civics Test
The civics test is administered to applicants who apply for U.S. citizenship and is one of the statutory requirements for naturalizing. Applicants who apply for naturalization on or after Dec. 1, 2020, will take the updated version of the test. Those who apply before Dec. 1, 2020, will take the current version of the test.
The revised test will not change the passing score, which will remain at 60%. Candidates must answer 12 questions correctly, out of 20 in order to pass. #USCIS

Biden wasting no time naming officials to reverse Trump's immigration policies
Actions the Biden administration has taken on immigration thus far:
1. Issued a moratorium on deportations;
2. Repealed the Muslim Ban;
3. Restored and recommitted to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program;
4. Halted border wall construction;
5. Extended Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians;
6. Repealed exclusion of undocumented people from the census count;
7. Ended new enrollments in the remain in Mexico (Migrant Protection Protocols) program; and
8. Introduced a bill to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented members of our communities.

#PresidentJoeBiden's proposal includes an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million undocumented people living in the U.S. The bill would offer one of the quickest pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in recent years: those living in the U.S. without papers as of Jan. 1 would have a five-year path to a green card contingent upon a background check, paying taxes, and other basic requirements. After, eligible immigrants would have a three-year path to naturalization.
