Tangent is owned and operated by Janet Rader and Ken Burton. Burton, a master woodworker, has been involved in the American crafts movement for over 30 years. He has shown his work at venues such as the Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show, the Fine Furnishings Show in Timonium, MD and at numerous galleries across the country. In his studio, Windy Ridge Woodworks, he makes custom furniture, cabinetry, home accessories, and sculpture. In opening Tangent, he hopes to create a place that the people in the Lehigh Valley can come to find fun, beautiful objects to enrich their lives. He truly believes that art should be for every day.
Janet Rader is relatively new to the craft scene, though in the last few years she has become an avid weaver and collector. She hopes to share this new-found passion for the arts and become an integral part of the Emmaus business community.
In addition to wooden objects from Windy Ridge Woodworks, Tangent carries artwork from over 40 local and nationally known artisans including pottery by Linda Rohrbach Austerberry and Michael Cho, quilts by Rachel Derstine, farm-fresh furniture from Bradford Woodworking, and ceramic wall pieces from Rhonda Cearlock among others. They also stock a great selection of fun and whimsical garden art and greeting cards.
Tangent is a member of the Main Street program and the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. They are open Wednesday through Sunday.
