Scars can be a constant reminder of previous traumas or injuries- especially on the face where they are more noticeable. As a facial plastic surgeon, my work is not always strictly cosmetic. 👩🏻⚕️ Sometimes, it is helping my patients regain their confidence following an injury or scars from previous surgery, and each time I do so it is incredibly gratifying. ✨

These "after" photos were taken three months after I performed scar revision. 📸This was accomplished by first cutting out the scar, and designing an irregular pattern (a.k.a. geometric broken line closure) in order to camouflage the new scar. Our eyes are attracted to straight lines on the face. Thus, in order to disguise the scar and trick the brain, a zig-zag pattern is used instead of a straight line. 📐The scar was also depressed and tethered, creating an unsightly gash in the face. I used a dermal-fascia-fat graft taken from in front of the right ear to fill in the depression. This graft is also what is used when I perform surgical #lipaugmentation cases to achieve beautiful, natural full lips.👄
