Chef Kausik Roy has studied the ways Americans respond to the complex tastes and spices of traditional Indian cooking. Tawa is an extension of the home style Indian cuisine the chef grew up with, along with more modern interpretations he has developed throughout the years, satisfying the purists, as well as the adventurous. Vibrant and exciting classic, as well as new preparations of fresh vegetables, meat and seafood are the basis to Tawa’s style of Indian bistro fare. Tasty vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are also featured, in addition to Chef Roy’s signature “Indo-Chinese” specialties. In addition to a spectacular lunch and Sunday brunch buffet, Tawa features Indian BBQ on the weekends throughout the warmer months.
Tawa is housed in a free-standing colonial style dwelling adjacent to the Glenbrook Train Station, among an active residential and retail neighborhood located 2 miles from downtown Stamford. The large space, divided into multiple dining areas, seats 85 inside and another 30 on the patio. Dressed is stylish wood paneling and colorful Indian street food photography, the space radiates with natural sunlight by day and in the evening morphs into a cozy neighborhood eatery.
