"Being able to treat every level of sports injury to enable each child athlete to go back to doing what they love, is the most amazing feeling! It could be simple things like playing ball with friends to getting national level medals; when they come and share their exciting winning stories with us and remind us how much it means to them — that feeling is just incredible! That is what motivates me and my team to come to work at Texas Children’s everyday. The U.S. News & World Report Orthopedic ranking serves as motivator to constantly strive for better patient care and outcomes which directly correlates with our reputation. It is one of the driving forces to raise the standards of patient care and research so that we can keep improving the position of our department and our hospital on the map with authenticity." - Dr. Indranil "Neel" Kushare, pediatric orthopedic surgeon for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands It takes all 16,705 of us to be ranked one of the nation's best. In honor of International Epilepsy Day, we're sharing Brayden's journey at Texas Children's: "Brayden was diagnosed with Partial Complex Epilepsy in 2012, he was in 3rd grade. He tried multiple medications to try and control his seizures with no results. Our family met with multiple epilepsy doctors with no help in finding him relief. After much research and a step in faith, we came to the Epilepsy Center at Texas Children’s Hospital in November 2018 for a consultation with Dr. Akshat Katyayan. As of today, since his second ablation surgery in March 2020, Brayden is 323 days seizure-free. Since the surgery, Brayden plays baseball, lifts weights six days a week and started studying for his driver’s license. Prior to the surgery, epilepsy took away his ability to be a kid and enjoy things kids get to do. It changed his personality, from a very vibrant and extroverted child to being an introvert. Post-surgery, Brayden is shining with confidence and stability. He is finally able to grow into the man that he has always wanted to be. Texas Children’s provided Brayden and our family an opportunity to breathe. Brayden will graduate from high school this year, seizure-free. Dr. Daniel Curry, Dr. Katyayan and the staff at Texas Children’s Neuroscience Center are a blessing to our family. God gave them the ability and the talent to do what they do. They have taken the burden of epilepsy and lifted the weight. If we would not have taken this journey and opened our hearts to something so new and scary, we wouldn’t be where we are today." - Angelie Macias, Brayden's mom.
