2020 has taught us a lot, and to be honest, we’re still collectively learning and evolving how to navigate the uncertainty of our environment. That’s pretty much the defining feature of this year: Uncertainty. Under some circumstances, uncertainty cannot be so bad and even exciting depending on the context. Under the lens of 2020? Not so much. THEBARBERSHOPMARKETING.COM How to Make the Most Out of Q4 - The Barber Shop Marketing

Meet our star of graphic design! Madeleine has been pivotal to our production department, and our intricate creative projects wouldn’t be possible without her. With skills in graphic design, front-end web development, and photography, what can’t this girl do?! We can't mention this superstar without recognizing all of her accolades, either. Madeleine has won an IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award, a Davey Award, AND an ADDY! Thank you, Madeleine, for your constant hard work.
For National Book Month, we asked our Creative Director for insight into his most inspirational books. He singled out Design Annuals, which presents award winning designs and art every year. According to David, studying the design innovations and varied creative styles in Design Annuals helps keep his work fresh and stretch his artistic abilities even further.
In a surprise to no one, Connected TV is up 81% YOY. The widespread increase of CTV reaffirms the effectiveness of targeting specific audiences within these channels. As streaming continues to rise, robust behavioral data can bring life to your CTV campaigns, but it all depends on your digital agency's capabilities for tracking audience behaviors and relevant impressions.
We all remember when Facebook applied targeting restrictions to advertisers for housing, employment, and credit called Special Ad Category. And since this summer, Google has been dropping upcoming updates regarding their own ad platform with similar restrictions. If your brand falls under these restrictions (you'll receive a notification in the account), you must accept the new terms and update campaigns accordingly before the policy goes into effect on October 19. If applicable advertisers do not update their account(s) by then, campaigns will no longer be eligible to serve. Check out the fine print here: https://support.google.com/adspolicy/answer/9917652
So excited to get our promotions department up and running again with some safe and distant events these past few weeks!
Regardless of what we go through, we should always celebrate the small wins. We asked our team what small wins they accomplished last week for some #MondayMotivation.
It's been a pretty spooky year already, but today, it's allowed. #HappyHalloween
Children are always a joy to work with, especially when we all get to play dress up!
We have some great news for small businesses! Until the end of 2020, companies will be able to keep all earnings from online Facebook events. In a time when online events might be the only viable option for engagement, this extra help could be crucial to keep SMBs open. Learn more --> https://bit.ly/30Vlyo3
It's time to recognize the leadership that has guided TBS through ever-increasing challenges this past year, and when better to do so than on National Boss's Day! Amy Hall has been a truly inspiring leader since her start as President of TBS and especially now during a completely new landscape of advertising and media. With decades of experience, she exacts client goals with poise, unending expertise, and a deep understanding of her team's skills. There is much more to be achieved at The Barber Shop with her at the helm. Thank you, Amy!
Our Brand Ambassador network stretches across the country with nearly 5000 promotional specialists available for street teams, full-scale events, product demos, and more! Patty is one of our best Team Leads here in Dallas, and we can't boast enough about the incredible work she's done. Thank you, Patty!
What can we expect in 2021? Much, much more. We'll definitely continue to experience increased digital spend in the advertising world along with bolstered eCommerce-driven strategies. AdWeek expects an increase in brand-to-brand partnerships as brands yearn for that extra oomph to capture consumer attention in this hectic world. SmartBrief reports that brands focusing on environmental, social, and ethical responsibility will thrive in an environment where consumers are driven more and more by their connection to brands. And as always, one thing we can always count on is evolving strategies and lightning speed pivots. Bring it on.
The TBS team is getting into the holiday spirit. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday!
You can never know enough about your digital marketing campaigns, which means our Digital Content Manager, Jordyn, has plenty to share: Stay up to date on everything, in two realms. The first includes algorithm updates, features and restrictions. It’s important, and when you’re in the thick of it 24/7, it’s super easy to fall behind. Sometimes an update is minor, but some come with a significant impact, especially if you’re not prepared. Like, if you’re running paid social and you’ve not been planning for the iOS 14 update, Google it now. The second is multi-faceted, which I sum up as ‘Read the Freakin’ Room’. It has always been true, but 2020 put this into overdrive and it’s absolutely crucial. Know your audience -- from the products they like, the content they want to consume and what’s important to them. Be aware of the environment locally, nationally, and globally, and how that affects your audience, your brand, and where your voice fits. Grasp it holistically. Provide value and engage. Empathize and connect. Be inclusive and diverse. Be human.
We dare ask, what else could go wrong in 2020? 🙃
Kaleigh is the renaissance gal of our team, consistently owning experiential marketing events and driving various client strategies. She's an unstoppable force when it comes to taking on a project and seeing it through with every last detail in place, which is why she is irreplaceable as the head of our Promotions department. It's only been a year and a half since she joined TBS, but we don't know what we'd do without her!
Attention all brands: E-mail marketing is absolutely still relevant! Like the everchanging trends of social and video campaigns, e-mail marketing is a touchstone for consumer-brand relationships. Many businesses neglect to parse their data and include the customer's name or other relevant signals directly in the e-mail, which have shown to increase open rates by 20%. Take it a step further and segment audiences to dynamically receive content that matches their interests and needs, and suddenly your campaigns and engagement will flourish.
Team building is still a must, even while social distancing. Thanks, Flower Child, for making our team chats delicious.
Black History is American history. This month is a reminder to prioritize and honor Black legacy with celebration and gratitude, not just this month, but every day, nationally and globally. Celebration of the ongoing contributions of black teachers, activists, lawmakers, parents, scientists, business owners, creatives -- every soul from the past, present, and future. Gratitude for every black soul that is the foundation of our country’s mosaic.
In 2020, The Barber Shop team set forth an ambition to find success in the details, celebrating small victories, and reaching the next level, 1% at a time. During the past year, this mindset kept our campaigns strong. Now, we dare to rewind 2020 and revisit the pivotal journeys our promotions, creative, sales, digital, and management teams took our brands. We’re not through with you yet, 2020, not before we celebrate our accomplishments, big and small. THEBARBERSHOPMARKETING.COM 2020: A Year in Review - The Barber Shop Marketing
