Earlier this morning I saw my first white crowned sparrow of the season. It was walking on the ground feeding under my pine trees. I’ve also seen a couple of chipping sparrow‘s recently. Be on the lookout for the next couple days as the Rose breasted grosbeak will be appearing.
I just saw my first Oriole of the year. He landed on the meal worm feeder and went directly to the no mess seed tray. He then flew away and returned to my freshly filled grape jelly tray. They are Brilliant orange.
With temperatures dropping below freezing tomorrow night, it reminds me why I don’t bring my birdbath heater in until after 1 May. Hopefully I say hopefully it will not freeze after that.
This is the time of year when birds are getting ready to nest. Make sure your houses are
cleaned out and ready for a tenant. If you do not have a house we have an assortment from which to choose. What birds you will receive in your yard depends on your habitat.
Today, March 29 is Vietnam veterans day. I want to give a shout out to my fellow Vietnam veterans. Thank you for serving.
It has been some time since I have posted any information so I wanted to do so today.
With the Coronavirus on everyone’s mind, I feel it is important to have a relief from stress. I feel watching the birds in your backyard connects you to nature and gives you a scene of peace. I wanted to let you know that the Bird Seedery is open normal hours during this crisis. You could order ahead and pick up curbside, or stop in front of the store and place your order via phone. I will process the order and bring it to your car. If you would like, you can also come into the store and place your order. I feel it’s important that you keep your feeders filled so while you’re at home you can enjoy the birds in your backyard. Yesterday, a friend of mine called to let me know that she has been depressed. She said she really didn’t care about living any longer. Then she looked at her window and saw bluebirds and chickadees contending for her nesting box. This brought her so much joy that she says it gives me a reason to live. That’s what nature does and that’s why I do what I do. Hope you see you soon.
