Tomorrow, October 10th, is World Mental Health Day. As veterinary medicine is one of the fields which has a higher than average rate of various mental health issues, we feel it is especially important to raise awareness with the @who for this holiday.
During our current “COVID-19 era,” when life has been changing quickly and dramatically for so many of us, it is important to make an effort to give each other grace and understanding.

Pet Obesity Awareness Day is October 9th.
Bonnie has been struggling with her weight for a very long time, but has been working very hard on her health during quarantine. Just since January, she lost over FOUR pounds!!
Can we get some congratulations for miss Bonnie? 🥰🥰
Today is Pet Obesity Awareness Day; sharing a post from the VHA blog:
While we often find ourselves giggling at portly pooches and chunky cats on the internet, the truth is that even a couple pounds of extra weight can cause health issues in our pets. Five extra pounds of body weight might seem to be a silly thing to worry about - but in a small pet, it could be the equivalent of carrying around an extra 50 pounds! Pet Obesity Awareness Day is the perfect time to assess your pet's body condition to see if a diet and added exercise routine might be in order. If you are having trouble with the battle of the bulge in your pet, give us a call today to schedule your next appointment!
The month of October is National Animal Safety & Protection Month. This month, we would like to remind you of some of our most important tips for keeping your fur-family safe:
1. Pet proofing your home: make sure that anything toxic or harmful your pets can get into is put away safely or removed from the home, this includes making sure that your houseplants are not poisonous to your pets.
2. Year-round heart worm, flea, & tick preventatives: We recommend the use of preventatives year-round, because any time the snow melts outside or the temperature gets warm enough for even ONE day, all of these disease-contributing creepy crawlies come back out to play.
3. Microchipping: Making sure your pets are microchipped is a great way to help make sure they make it home safely to you should they ever get out.
4. Vaccination: Keep your pets up-to-date on all recommended vaccines to make sure they’re guarded against disease.
There are so many more ways to help keep your pets safe, if you ever have any questions, make sure to ask your veterinarian at your next pet well visit!
Tomorrow is Veterinary Nurse Day!
Make sure to thank your veterinary nurses who work with the veterinarians year round to take care of your pets. 🥰🥰

Happy Monday, everyone!
Pit Bulls are a classification of dogs that are truly misunderstood. As with any dog, bully breeds make excellent companions given the proper socialization and training. We absolutely love our Pit Bull patients! Let us see those adora-BULL pitties in the comments below!
Cats are great at hiding health issues. But when you bring them in for a routine wellness visit, we run diagnostic screening tests that help us catch health issues sooner, before they become advanced diseases.
October 21st is Reptile Awareness Day. The holiday was created to bring awareness to all of the reptiles in your local environments, endangered species of reptile, and reptile health and care.
Here are some great links for helping your kids (or yourself, we won’t judge you 😉) to learn more about their scaly neighbors and friends:

Sharing from the VHA blog:
Happy National Fetch Day! Whether you play indoors or outdoors, with a canine or feline, today is a great day to spend a little extra time playing fetch!
Is your dog a little confused about the concept of fetch? You are not alone! Many dog owners are familiar with the game of throw the ball and chase the dog around while repeating "drop it!" like some sort of miracle mantra. Another common game you may know is where you throw the toy, and your dog watches you fetch it.
While some dogs take to fetch easily, some need a little extra guidance!

November 14th is World Diabetes Day, and all month long in November is National Pet Diabetes Month.
Diabetes is an ailment that affects pets in the same way it affects people. Pets with diabetes can and do live happy and healthy lives with proper care and treatment. Early detection of diabetes will not only bring more comfort to you and your pet but will also be much more manageable. We are here to help!
Recently at the clinic, we’ve been tinkering with new methods of helping our diabetic patients become regulated, as complications of diabetes are a daily struggle for pets and their owners.
November 13th is World Kindness Day.
Things are still difficult and uncertain for many right now, so remember to take this day and think of ways to be kind to yourself and the people and animals around you.

"Cummerbund and Peplum are a pair of bonded bunnies that are new to our rescue! Like all friends, each brings their own personality to the partnership.
Cummerbund is the more easygoing of the two and is the most likely to open up to new people. Peplum is working through some trust training, so she will take a little bit of time to warm up to new situations.
They enjoy eachother’s company and spend time together playing in their enclosure. Peplum enjoys playing with chew toys, while Cummerbund is perfectly happy rearranging their living space.
If you think this pair would make a good addition to your family, please contact us today! https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/adoption-application
