These days are filled with uncertainty, anxieties and stressors. Not just for our patients, but also for us, your healthcare team. We strive daily to create a safe space for our patients where for a few moments, they can quiet the noise all around. Kindness, compassion, love and laughter (lots of laughter) are the tools we use. Of course it’s not always rainbows and unicorns. There is sometimes sadness. We are sometimes subjected angry phone calls or have to bear the brunt of someone lashing out.
In the midst of all that, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the gratitude of our patients. Jenni came in yesterday and overwhelmed us with her gratitude including this meaningful and heartfelt note. Many of our patients express the same gratitude. But this touched all of us. It was timely. It’s been a long week. So thank you all. And thank you Jenni ❤️🤗 👶

Above is a compilation of the statements from our field’s Societies: ACOG, SMFM, ASRM, as well as a decision making tool developed by our colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical School – Baystate (citations on slide 10).
Ultimately we know that Covid-19 poses a high risk to pregnant individuals. Pregnant patients with Covid-19 are more likely to:
🤰🏽end up in ICU,
🤰🏽deliver preterm
🤰🏽Are more likely to die than their non pregnant counterparts of the same age
These risks must be weighed against potential (unknown) risks of the vaccine. 💉
What we do know is:
❌ the vaccine is NOT a live vaccine (live vaccines are contraindicated in pregnancy)
❌ mRNA likely does NOT cross the placenta
❌ the vaccine was found to be SAFE and EFFICACIOUS in the study population which unfortunately EXCLUDED pregnant and lactating women
❌vaccinating those who are pregnant and/or lactating would likely produce antibodies that would protect the fetus or breastfeeding neonate

If you are trying to conceive, pregnant, or breastfeeding I urge you to evaluate the risks/benefits of you receiving the vaccine as well as your risks of contracting COVID-19 and make an informed decision with your healthcare provider.
