We wanted to take a minute and update you on the COVID changes in the practice. As of now, we are still 100% curbside service, which means clients still must drop pets off at the door. Our staff is all healthy and working a full schedule, and in fact we expect soon to be expanding our hours! We all hope that it will be safe to slowly start allowing people into the practice, especially with cold weather on the way, but we will only do so when it is deemed truly safe. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!! (Cute cockatoo with toothbrush just to get your attention...)
Anyone living in Manhattan, please keep your ears and eyes open for this beautiful and much loved bird...
Happy Sunday! We are updating our exotic animal blood donor list and wanted to reach out to our community to see if anyone would be interested in participating. We are looking for exotic pet owners who live within an hour of our practice (upper west side of Manhattan) who own larger sized exotic pets including ferrets, rabbits, birds, or reptiles. Like with people, when animals are in need of blood, we rely on others to help save lives. If you are interested in learning more about having your pet be a potential blood donor with us, please message us here on this page!
It’s a dinosaur! We love our Chameleons....
After having to cover the front desk for a few days last week, I can tell you without a doubt that our receptionists are HEROIC every day! Tracy, Aeri, Victoria, and Nicole are tireless in their kindness and compassion, dealing with non-stop phone calls during the pandemic, emailing and online booking every second, and handling curbside appointments like pros.... I can't speak highly enough of our amazing team. As a manager, I feel so lucky to have them!! And, I am glad I get to be back in the prep room where I belong!
Happy National Veterinary Technician Appreciation week! Thanks to AVMA for featuring Lorelei D'Avolio in their press release about how important our technicians are! AVMA.ORG In a challenging year, credentialed veterinary technicians prove more essential than ever
Just like humans, parrots can learn to adapt to their disabilities. This macaw lost her foot, which can be challenging since parrots use their feet to hold food. But look how she developed the use of her beak to adapt!!! So smart!!!
This gorgeous and brilliant bird is in need of a loving home. He has a huge vocabulary and is in good health, but he needs a family with a lot of bird experience. He is territorial, sometimes unpredictable, and can give a tough bite! Like all birds, he has some loud, annoying noises he makes when he wants attention, but he wants to bond with someone, and is so worthy of love!! If you are interested, please message us here. His name is Max.
Customer Service Representatives Wanted!! We are so excited to be able to offer employment for someone looking to save animals, help people, and join our amazing team! Those of you who come here know how important the front desk staff's role is, and we are looking for the perfect fit! Private message here if you are interested! We are thankful that we have been healthy enough to continue caring for our patients throughout this pandemic, and grateful for our community of exotic pet lovers!
Here at the Center, we do not prescribe medication to be used in water as a means of administering prescribed treatments. We know that medicine in water will not be ingested at the proper dose, is often not stable in water, and can make the water taste bad, in turn making the bird not drink water. But we do recognize how hard it is to medicate parrots! If you have a parrot, even if it is currently healthy, please read this article and think about teaching your bird how to accept medicine from a syringe. It will make life SO much easier for you if you ever need it. https://fearfreehappyhomes.com/giving-medication-to-birds-without-fear-and-stress-for-birds-or-humans/ FEARFREEHAPPYHOMES.COM Giving Medication to Birds Without Fear and Stress – for Birds or Humans!
We love working with our rescues- HUGE shout out to NEAR (North East Avian Rescue) for the lives they save and enrich every single day. (FYI... this AMAZING handicapped, senior parrot would love to have a good home. Elijah is gently, smart, and loves to eat!
Welcome 2021!!! Here at the Center, not having our clients inside has been one of the hardest challenges, and we are so hopeful that soon we will be able to welcome you all back inside to be able to manage your pets health with us in person. To that end, we are so excited to tell you all that in 2021 we are expanding our space and our services!!! We can't wait to share all of these upcoming changes with you, so stay tuned! Be safe and have a very Happy New Year!
Today we celebrate a great man and his beliefs.
Happy Monday everyone! Thought this would be a good moment to say hello to Charlotte, an Axolotl. She has been boarding with us over the holidays, and we absolutely love her!
February is National Pet Dental Health month! While most of our patients don't require routine, preventive dental cleanings, the exception is pet ferrets! If you have a ferret in need of a dental cleaning, please mention this post and receive 20% off their routine cleaning and polishing! (please note that any ferret taking advantage of this discount must be up-to-date with a physical exam and any required diagnostics prior to anesthesia and dental work).
During the pandemic, people often ask us "What is happening inside?!" Well, here are a few photos of some of our Team doing what we do best- helping exotic pets!
Well, nobody said bearded dragons were the smartest of the exotic pets... luckily the jewel passed uneventfully, although we shall see if the owner will wear it again!
Attention Clients: Sadly, one of our employees has tested COVID+ so we are going to have to dramatically change our ability to serve you all for the next week while we all get tested and quarantine. Luckily, some of us are fully vaccinated so the animals who are here will be cared for and we will be able to see animals who require urgent care. But we do ask for your patience as we will be working with a very limited staff. Thank you.
While this story has a happy ending, this was a truly terrifying experience for us. PLEASE, please, please bring your pets to us, or any vet, safely secured inside of a carrier! We know your bird loves you, but when startled, they will fly away. https://www.westsiderag.com/2021/03/22/fdny-makes-daring-parrot-rescue-on-columbus-avenue WESTSIDERAG.COM West Side Rag » Updated: FDNY Makes Daring Parrot-Rescue on Columbus Avenue
