COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of many things this year, but fashion and style will never be on lockdown. Three year old Kaylee recently came to the outpatient surgery center at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and took advantage of the opportunity to show off her love all of things that sparkle. She paired her gown with sunglasses and a snowflake wand, along with 2020's must-have accessory, a personalized face mask.
Kaylee is a survivor of rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that starts in the body's soft tissue. Children with this type of cancer and other solid tumors (such as osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma) will often have chemotherapy, surgery and radiation as part of their treatment. When patients have completed treatment, they will eventually transition to the Survivorship Clinic, where they will continue to be monitored for relapse and late side effects from treatment.
More time at home during this pandemic means more time than ever around your four-legged family members! 🐶🐱 That quality time comes with some risk, especially for children. Our latest blog post offers great advice on how to keep your family safe around pets.

Today, September 8, is Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses’ Day. It’s a day to recognize our nurses who care for the needs of children with cancer and blood disorders. We thank them for providing quality care to some of our most precious patients and their families! 💛

Recently, a significant event at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio ensured the preservation of a vital part of the city’s history. Hospital leaders and the descendants of Campo Santo gathered for a mass and ceremony to reinter the remains of some of the earliest residents of San Antonio. These remains were discovered during construction at the site of the hospital’s new outdoor gardens, which is also the location of the city’s first cemetery. After years of collaboration with various descendants groups to ensure their ancestors’ gravesite is maintained, this ceremony returned the remains to the sacred ground.
We sincerely hope these events give the dignity and recognition to San Antonio’s first families that they so richly deserve.
Our Emergency Room continues to be a safe care environment for your child. However, we know it’s important to give parents a better, more convenient option for that care. That is why we have started a new program called ER Options for Kids at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Emergency Center – Westover Hills. It helps you decide whether your child’s symptoms allow you to wait at home or in your vehicle while we prepare to see your child or if your child needs to be seen immediately.
Call our ER at 1.833.7NOWAIT (1.833.766.9248) or visit https://bit.ly/3fKPO9H for more information.

When Maya was diagnosed with scoliosis several years ago, she officially became a "Curvy Girl". Now she uses her strength, both mental and physical, to help other girls diagnosed with scoliosis as the leader of Curvy Girls Scoliosis – a scoliosis support group for teens run by teens.
Maya gained much of that strength with the help of Cori Reynolds, PT, using Schroth-based scoliosis specific exercises. This treatment allows Maya to do Schroth therapy both in and out of her brace. Cori Reynolds, PT, is currently the only therapist in San Antonio certified by the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy Schools (BSPTS) to utilize this three-dimensional treatment approach for adolescents with scoliosis and kyphosis.
