Meet 12 year old Teddy (boy) and 7 year old Frankie (girl) who are our December 2020 Pet(s) of the Month!
They are Shichons (1/2 Shih tzu and 1/2 Bichon frise) and they are not siblings. They are Chicago suburb expats, so don’t worry if they are fearful and anxious around other dogs. But they love people! Teddy especially loves petting and loads of attention. Frankie melts the hearts of those who meet her with her outlandishly long eyelashes. They love the Cooper, especially the park and the Riverwalk where you will spot them hauling their mom around. They have adapted to apartment living very well, because they love the smaller space. They are never very far from their mom! 🐾 🐶

Delta is a 4-year old lab mix who is so excited to be pet of the month! She loves her people and fellow furry friends at the Cooper and all the love they give her! She loves playing with her anaconda squeaky toy, exclusively when her mom is on conference calls. Delta is a very smart girl who loves learning new tricks but is terrified of vacuums and has attacked several roombas, making her home broom-only. She has a lot of energy and is usually the fastest dog at the dog park! She loves her home at the Cooper! 🐾 🐶

Throughout February we will be celebrating Black History Month every Wednesday by honoring Black Chicagoans, past and present, who have left an indelible mark on our city, country, and world.
Harold Lee Washington (1922 - 1987) broke barriers in city politics with his election as Chicago’s 51st mayor - the first Black Chicagoan elected to the city’s top position - in 1983.
Born and raised in the Bronzeville neighborhood, Washington became involved in local 3rd Ward politics under then-Alderman and future Congressman Ralph Metcalfe after graduating from Roosevelt University and Northwestern University School of Law. Washington was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1983, representing Illinois's first district, and had previously served in the Illinois State Senate and the Illinois House of Representatives from 1965 until 1976.
Washington’s victory in the mayoral election was built upon a multiracial coalition of progressives that he had energized during his run. He served as Mayor of Chicago from 1983 until his death on November 25, 1987. Today, there are many landmarks across the city named in his honor, including Harold Washington Library, located at 400 S. State St. – just a half-mile from The Cooper!

Quirks: Pepper is the ultimate snuggler. She also demands to carry any flat envelopes/packages from the elevator to our unit. She is very into TV, and will tilt her head watching shows where there is lots of yelling, so we’ll put Real Housewives on to keep her occupied for awhile.
