COVID-19 UPDATE - Weds. May 6th, 2020
To Our Wonderful Patients:
We hope that this email finds you all safe and well during this difficult time.
We are happy to report that our office is now open! We would like to take this opportunity to update you on the measures we are taking to ensure that we are able to keep your safety our number one priority while providing optimal dental health care. To achieve this, we are closely adhering to all recommendations made by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Dental Association (ADA) with regard to the Coronavirus.
We will be implementing some changes to our protocols. Some of these changes include requiring every person who enters our office to wear a mask and use hand-sanitizer, pre-health screening and temperature check prior to being seated in a treatment room, and reinforcing the practice of social distancing whenever possible. Our clinical staff will be wearing N95 masks, face shields and/or protective eyewear, disposable protective gowns and/or labcoats, and, of course, gloves. We will also be allocating more time in between patients to reduce the number of people in the office at any given time. And, as always, we will be following strict protocols for cleaning and disinfection.
Our staff will be reaching out to you in the coming weeks to reschedule appointments that were canceled due to COVID-19. In the interim, please feel free to reach out to us if you need us, or if you'd like to schedule an appointment for your routine dental hygiene and check-up. Now more than ever, it is important to maintain your oral health, which will contribute to a healthy immune system.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey Cohen and Staff
We couldn’t resist! 😃
A beautiful smile begins with a foundation of good dental health, which includes check-ups for gum disease.
Gingivitis is a term used to describe gum inflammation that is caused by excess plaque on the teeth. Many times people will have gingivitis and not be aware, because the symptoms aren’t necessarily painful. Symptoms may include gums that bleed easily when brushed or flossed, swollen gums, or bright red gums.
As gingivitis progresses, it turns into periodontitis, a more severe type of periodontal disease.
Periodontitis can cause tooth loss. And some research suggests that the bacteria responsible for periodontitis can enter your bloodstream through gum tissue, possibly affecting your heart, lungs and other parts of your body. For example, periodontitis may be linked with respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease or stroke.
Prevention
The best way to prevent periodontitis is to follow a program of good oral hygiene, one that you begin early and practice consistently throughout life.
Good oral hygiene. That means brushing your teeth for two minutes at least twice daily — in the morning and before going to bed — and flossing at least once a day. Flossing before you brush allows you to clean away the loosened food particles and bacteria.
Regular dental visits. See your dentist or dental hygienist regularly for cleanings, usually every six to 12 months. If you have risk factors that increase your chance of developing periodontitis — such as having dry mouth, taking certain medications or smoking — you may need professional cleaning more often.
