The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced on October 13, 2020, that the maximum wage subject to Social Security FICA taxes will increase from $137,700 to $142,800 starting January 1, 2021. OSHA released COVID-19 workers safety guidelines last Friday. The new guidelines state that every employer should implement a COVID-19 prevention program. The guidance also contains recommendations to assist employers in providing a safe workplace. The guidelines do not create new legal obligations today. However, OSHA is expected to make a decision in the next few weeks on whether it should issue nationwide emergency temporary standards, which would carry legal requirements for employers.
