The Drake Institute of Behavioral Medicine was co-founded in 1980. Its medical director, David F. Velkoff, M.D., M.A., is recognized as a physician pioneer in the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders without drugs, including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders, and stress-related disorders; including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome and much more for both children and adults. As medical director and co-founder of the Institute, Dr. Velkoff has guided the Drake Institute to be a leader in biofeedback, neurofeedback and qEEG brain-mapping techniques designed to evaluate and treat behavioral, emotional, learning and stress induced physical symptoms without the use of drugs. Using quantitative electroencephalogram technology as well as stress testing with biofeedback instrumentation, Dr. Velkoff and his clinical team devise customized, patient-centered treatment programs designed to help patients from around the world at two locations in Irvine and Northridge, California. Through improving brain functioning in neurodevelopmental disorders or reducing elevated physiologic tension levels in stress disorders, patients can reduce or resolve symptoms while improving self-esteem and self-confidence.As a medical clinic, we have integrated the fields of medicine, psychology, neuropsychology, neurosciences, computer sciences, and family therapy to provide a uniquely exceptional treatment program to improve our patients’ lives.
