Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do.
I'm half crazy all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage.
But you'll look sweet,
Upon the seat,
Of a bicycle made for two.
Michael, Micheal, here is your answer true.
I'm not crazy all for the love of you.
There won't be any marriage,
If you can't afford a carriage.
'Cause I'll be switched,
If I get hitched,
On a bicycle built for two!"

There are many things that we take into consideration inside our memory care facilities. Such as key pads at the doors so the building is always secure, specialized activities to engage each resident, sensory pillows, interactive pets and therapy dolls just to name a few. It is incredibly important that anyone with a memory impairment is stimulated, has routine, and a sense of familiarity in their daily lives. Take a look at this video to learn more and to see our beautiful Brigham City Memory Care Facility.

Happy Anniversary Gables of Blackfoot Assisted Living! Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since we opened our 2nd location to the Blackfoot community!
https://www.thegablesfamily.com/locations/blackfoot-assisted-living/
Happy Work Anniversary to our one and only Blackfoot Assisted Living Administrator Heidi Olsen 💗 If you don’t already know Heidi... you should. She has a huge heart and cares deeply for her residents and staff.
Heidi started her healthcare career in 1995 when she obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked for a Podiatrist and Home Health for a short period of time before getting married. Shortly after getting married, she and her husband moved numerous times before settling back in Blackfoot in 2006.
She was blessed to be able to stay at home and raise their 3 children up until the time they were all in school. She was able to get back into the nursing profession doing Hospice on a part-time basis for about 5 years. During this time, she spent many hours in the Gables facilities taking care of patients that resided in these facilities. This is when she developed a love for the Gables because of the loving atmosphere felt upon entering the doors.
She then went to work as a back-office nurse for a General/Bariatric Surgeon for about 3 years. At that time, her in-laws moved in with them, so she quit her full-time job to stay home and assist them. During those 4 ½ years, she worked part-time as a facility nurse for some Assisted Living Facilities in the valley, which later included both Gables’ facilities in Blackfoot and Pocatello.
At the end of July 2019, she was asked to take over The Blackfoot II facility as the Administrator. she says, she has people ask her all the time if she misses “nursing”. However, she feels she has the best of both worlds. She has always loved doing office work, so now has the opportunity to be in the office as well as still being involved in each Resident’s healthcare decisions.
She absolutely loves each and every Resident and the joy and happiness they bring to her. She loves being able to show them love and compassion and to comfort them when they are having a bad day. She says she is truly blessed to be part of the Gables family, and most importantly the life lessons she learns each and every day from Residents.
Thank you Heidi!! We love having you as part of our Gables Family

According to the Mayo Clinic and the Alzheimer’s Association, art therapy can open doors to self-expression and communication that also create a true sense of purpose and accomplishment in loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Art therapists tell us that creative self-expression through art offers several important benefits for individuals with memory loss, including: 🔹Increasing ability for self-expression and communication
🔹Helping reduce stress, fear, and anxiety
🔹Improving mood and decreases agitation and outbursts
🔹Enabling social engagement and reduces isolation
🔹Improving ability to focus
🔹Enhancing memory and the ability to reminisce
🔹Providing an important sense of accomplishment and purpose
🔹Awakening a sense of interest and curiosity
🔹Rekindling the ability to form relationships, particularly with the person providing the art therapy.
If you would like to try art activities with your loved one at home, the Alzheimer’s Association offers these useful suggestions in the article, “Music, Art and Alzheimer’s” https://www.alz.org/help-support/caregiving/daily-care/art-music

We would like to welcome and introduce you to Chandler Williams. He has joined our digital marketing team. We are very excited to put his creativity and skills to work 😁
Chandler is an Idaho Falls native that has two main passions. He loves soccer, or, as he claims it should be called, football. Having played since he was 4 years old, he has played in various levels of competition throughout his childhood and even played for Utah State University while studying for his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing.
Chandler’s other passion is bringing joy to the lives of the people he meets every day. He loves to make others laugh and feel that someone genuinely cares about them. That’s why he fits in so well at The Gables.
He also loves trying new things and seeing new places. Having spent time abroad and traveling to new places, he is eager to see as much of the world as he can. While traveling all over Europe is certainly on his bucket list, but he also enjoys the outdoors and camping. Always trying to think of creative and clever ideas, he loves making the most of each day.

Cognitive decline and memory problems can make senior citizens particularly prone to mental health issues during old age. This is why most people choose to move to one of the assisted living and memory care facilities. The good news is, old age doesn’t necessarily have to be painful.
In addition to therapy and clinical intervention, several resources and activities can help older adults stay mentally engaged. It can keep them in good spirits and help them stay sharp.

One of the ways that individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia show anxiety or agitation is in their hands. They will begin to fidget, restlessly pulling at clothes or blankets, wringing their hands, or rubbing their hands together. Fidget blankets are one way to help restore calm.

The beauty of a woman is not in the cut of her figure, the youthfulness of her skin, or the style of her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart where love resides. Her beauty is seen in the caring she gives and as the years pass her beauty only grows. ~ Author Unknown
