The Gazette’s 54,000-square-foot state-of-the-art newspaper printing production and distribution facility is located on Janesville's far east side and was built by Bliss Communications, publisher of The Gazette newspaper. The printing facility streamlines the company's daily operations by producing several of Bliss Communication's publications and also accommodates commercial printing for other independent clients.
The Printing & Distribution facility on the corner of Wuthering Hills Drive and Capitol Circle features a Germany-based Koenig and Bauer AG KBA Comet press that prints the Gazette and its subsidiary products including The Janesville Messenger, The Stateline News, The Monroe Times, The Monroe Shopping News, The Freeport Shopping News, CSI Publications, Walworth County Sunday, The Walworth County Shopper, and several other publications. The press is the centerpiece of the center, which cost more than $20 million. The plant houses the newspaper's pre-press, press, packaging/distribution and newsprint storage operations. The press is capable of producing 75,000 copies per hour with high-quality reproduction and four-color printing on virtually every page.
Mechanical systems for the press include process water cooling, humidification, space temperature control, compressed air, and vacuum. The compressed air and vacuum systems also serve the adjacent mail room housing the sorters and packaging equipment. A hot water boiler plant serves the heating needs of the entire facility; chilled water from an air-cooled chiller provides cooling to the press hall with direct expansion equipment serving the mail room and adjacent office and service space. The building is provided with a full sprinkler system.
