Founded by Shauna Fiorentino (Certified Hand and Upper Extremity Specialist) in 2010, The Hand Institute has grown to be the largest rehabilitation center of its kind in the region. It is the only Rehabilitation center locally to concentrate entirely on the upper quarter, which includes the cervical spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Due to the complexity of the upper extremity, anatomy and the impact a condition or injury may have on a patient’s function, this field has evolved into a specialty that is better suited to treat and achieve best possible outcomes.
Our center cares for patients from all over the tri-state region who seek treatment for a wide variety of problems and injuries. From traumatic injuries to treating repetitive motion injuries, arthritic conditions and congenital differences, our goal is to restore the patients use of the hand, wrist elbow, and shoulder to the greatest degree possible.
If full recovery is not possible for whatever reason, we call upon our Occupational Therapy roots to take an adaptive approach. We utilize all of the latest techniques and can fabricate any custom splint no matter how complicated. Physicians may send their patients directly to us from their office if they require a splint, as we accept walk-ins. All other treatments are by appointment, but we offer hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Special arrangements can be made if necessary. For further information call our office at (301) 777-2170.
