🖤 Colon cancer is the second highest cause of cancer related deaths in the US.
🖤 The African American community have the highest incidence and mortality rates of colon cancer and unfortunately the lowest screening rates.
🖤 National guidelines advocate for average risk screening to begin at age 50. This drops to age 45 for African Americans and to age 40 (or younger) depending on your family history.
🖤 Colonoscopy is the most effective tool for screening and prevention. Screening via colonoscopy allows for detection and removal of colon polyps which allows for prevention of colorectal cancer and prevention of death. However there are other screening modalities available if your health does not allow for an invasive procedure.
🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 Get screened! Get Screened! GET SCREENED!

Today is the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, AND the 56th anniversary of the passing Civil Rights Act of 1964 AND just two weeks ago the Supreme Court ruled that the Act provides constitutional protection against job discrimination on the basis of sexual identity. #juneisforjustice

#throwbackthursday photos from the first event I ever sponsored the #BluesforJustice fundraiser hosted by The Georgia Justice Project (GJP). GJP is a local nonprofit that’s worked to improve Georgia’s Criminal Justice System for over 34 years!!! GJP has successfully lobbied for more expansive criminal expungements, they provide social services to support recently released persons, train civil lawyers like myself to serve in the criminal justice space and last year alone GJP assisted over 6,600 Georgians 🙌🏾❤️🙏🏾 . —- While new voices and new ideas are always welcome in the fight for equality, I’m thankful today for GJP, an “oldie but goodie” who’s long-standing commitment to Justice in Georgia is beyond compare . Visit their website: www.gjp.org for info on volunteering or accessing GJP services. alwaysgrateful #GJP #criminaljustice

Can you imagine how different a course each young man's life may sail because the system directed them to a space of enrichment instead of jail?
To see Judge Kirk and the community work together to genuinely reduce crime, reduce crime by empowering people, warms the heart ❤️👩🏾⚖️

Born April 11, 1908 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Jane Bolin was the first African-American woman to serve as a judge in the United States. Bolin was appointed in 1939 by then Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, and remained the only African-American woman Judge in the entire country for 20 years.
Given her phenomenal career (she was also the first African-American woman to graduate from Yale law), Bolin was driven not by a desire to be first, but the commitment to her work product which led to many “firsts.”
Judge Bolin’s words are a powerful reminder that we should chase our best selves, and our best effort -- not a title or position.
Michelle is a true “Vaquera” who loves the great outdoors. Outside of the office, you can find Michelle tending horses at her uncle's ranch 🐴 , hiking 🥾 or spending time with family.
The office botanist, Michelle has a beautiful mainstay of house plants 🪴 and succulents, and periodically brings in additional tropical arrangements that draw everyone to her space.
Michelle is in her last year of college at Georgia State University, in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Law and Society, with a criminal justice minor. After obtaining her bachelor's, Michelle intends to become a lawyer and #bosslady herself. A proud, first-generation Mexican American, Michelle will center on her legal career on issues that disproportionately affect low-income immigrants.
This Black History Month I'm focused on brave and enterprising African-American women.
While this quote from Madame C.J. Walker "needs no explanation, " it is easier said than done. Making opportunities requires vision, vulnerability, and the confidence to execute in spite of failures & set-backs, which occur in the pursuit of any worthy goal.
What woman inspires you to make your own opportunity? I am personally "stan" for @PamtheCPA, who relocated from Michigan to Atlanta to launch her accounting firm. From the big move to her constant flow of useful content (seriously, check her IG), Pam exemplifies the "get up and go" attitude espoused by Madame C.J. Do you have a modern Madame C.J.? Tag her in the comments and spread the love.
Sadly, Georgia law does NOT protect injured workers from retaliation. Most states do, but Georgia does not. Nonetheless, there are Federal laws that offer protection, and certain burdens within workers' compensation law are relaxed if an injured worker can show that their company discharged them due to their injury.
Finally, Judges dislike such retaliation and respond favorably to injured workers who were unjustly terminated. If you were fired following an on the job injury, call us for a FREE consultation at 770-450-9599

Alicia is an all-around southern belle, who loves family, football, and Tennessee whiskey. Out of the office, you can find her in a hot yoga class, Macy's, or a girlfriend's couch.
An avid traveler, Alicia has visited 15+ countries and has the entire African continent on her Bucket List!
Alicia's passion is helping middle-class Georgians enforce their rights. She founded the Mack Law Firm in Sept. 2015 in pursuit of that passion and aspires to develop additional services that increase access to justice in our civil system.
