Part of our legacy here at MCS lives on through our amazing Alumni! And, part of being an alumni is being able to give back. Some of our amazing alumni who now attend Judge Memorial High School were able to give back today by visiting our campus to discuss with our 5-8 grade students the options and experiences offered Judge Memorial Catholic High School! Thank you so much for your visit. ♥️🙏🏼♥️ #lifeaftermcs #mcs #judgememorialcatholichighschool #alumni #service #givingback Judge Memorial Catholic High School.

The Choir School community offers its condolences and prayerful best wishes to Jeff and Cindy Hunt, at the death of Jeff’s father, James F. Hunt. A private family Funeral Mass for Mr. Hunt was celebrated on Friday in the Cathedral. Mr. Hunt was the grandfather of Madison (MCS Class of 2005), Christopher (MCS Class of 2007) and Tess (MCS Class of 2014). Eternal rest grant unto James, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Bee Rescue by Henry Hueton! We all experienced quite the stir during the turbulent wind storm that ripped through parts of Northern Utah in September. Community members came together to help each other out. As you can see in the attached pictures, even a nest of, "12,000,000," bees were saved from a tree that had fallen. Click on the following link to read an article written by current MCS student, Henry Hueton, as he recalled the great bee rescue (pg. 4)! https://slc-avenues.org/news-events/the-agenda-newsletter/269-2020-11-november-gacc-newsletter-the-agenda/file
Today, some of our students got a special Veterans Day surprise when a parent (who is an active duty army nurse) of one of our 5th grade students, was able to virtually join the class. Stepping out of retirement, this amazing MCS parent was deployed to Washington State at COVID-19 Ground Zero to help those in need. Our love and prayers go out to this family and the many others who selflessly give in times of need. #VeteransDay #heroes #virtual #manythanks

Quite often it is the simple gestures and pleasures that help us get through. As our teachers used this Professional Educators Day to sharpen their already sharp skills, they were treated with a gesture of gratitude with some yummy coffee and treats. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! On this Thanksgiving Day, The Madeleine Choir School extends its gratitude and thanks to the many people who make our community of learners vital and growing today, including our students, teachers, parents, alumni, grandparents, donors, staff, friends, and fans of our hard-working choirs! In a year during which our entire world faces numerous obstacles and trials, we applaud and appreciate the amazing efforts made by so many of you to support us, and to help others in your very own ways, giving us even more reason to be thankful! With best wishes for you and your families, Your Friends at The Madeleine Choir School 🍁🦃♥️ *In one of many community service projects that take place at MCS, 60 Thanksgiving dinners were collected for families in need in recent days. This kind and giving spirit fills our hearts with joy.

While this year's holiday season looks quite different for performers all around, our choristers have some exciting projects lined up ... stay tuned. Until then, Day 3 of The Madeleine Choir School’s Digital Advent Calendar brings to you a #throwbackthursday. Our Choristers were quite busy last year at this time performing with both the Utah Symphony in their holiday concert and singing with Ballet West’s production of the Nutcracker. #adventcalendar #choristerslife

The Madeleine Choir School humbly requests your support of our Friends Annual Appeal on this #GivingTuesday2020. Each year we raise over $500K to support our tuition assistance program. December 1, 2020
The Advent season is upon us! Beginning December 1st and ending December 25th, we will be bringing to you The Madeleine Choir School's Digital Advent Calendar. During this special time, let us slow down and truly remember that we are all part of the same community. Over the next 25 days we will be looking at many of the different ways that The Madeleine Choir School has contributed to both the local and world-wide community over the years. Yesterday began with a virtual Advent Prayer Service led by Principal Randazzo, where together each class lit the first candle of the Advent wreaths in their individual classrooms. The four candles in the wreath represent hope, faith, joy, and peace. Day one of our Digital Advent Calendar brings to you pictures of some of those wreaths, as well as some other fun and festive activities. P.S. The Choir School Elf on a Shelf is back - COVID style. #adventcalendar #advent #community #faith #joy #hope #peace
Our 2nd Grade students could teach us all a thing or two about life! Let’s all follow in their footsteps and be readers, thinkers, writers, risk takers, scientists, teammates, and explorers! #2ndgrade #thinkers #writers #successstartsatmcs ⬅️↖️⬆️↗️➡️⬇️🔀🔄
During normal times, our Choristers are very busy providing service throughout our community this time of year. In the month of December, one of our choirs sings almost every day – which includes our St. Therese Choir. They lend their beautiful voices to lift the spirits of all who hear them. Day 9 of our Digital Advent Calendar brings to you our St. Therese Choir singing Marian hymn, Alma Redemptoris Mater. We hope that hearing them sing will lift your spirit as much as it does ours! #sttherese #choristers #mcschoristers #communityservice #adventcalendar #almaredemptorismater
Today, our 3rd through 8th Grade students were able to celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary by virtually attending Mass from their homeroom classes. Our Choristers sang during this special live-streamed Mass, blessing us all with their angelic voices. Fr. Diaz reminded us all during his homily that the Virgin Mary was untouched by sin, fostering the way for her to be the vessel with which Jesus was able to be born on earth. Day 8 of our Digital Advent Calendar brings to you photos from the Mass, both from the Cathedral and inside our classrooms, with a recording of our Choristers singing during the special service. #advent #adventcalendar #immaculateconception #blessedvirginmary #mass #virtualmass
Our monthly Coffee with the Principal is fast approaching. Join Principal Randazzo for a casual, yet informative event! Our event in November was a great success, and we are excited to host attendees who are interested in The Madeleine Choir School for their child! Zoom link can be found in link below. ☕️ 👩🏻‍🏫 👩🏻‍💻 https://www.utmcs.org/apps/pages/admissionsevents
At the onset of the Advent Season, our engaged MCS Leadership wanted to find a way for us all to still feel connected during this special time. Not only was each classroom given their own Advent Wreath, but a virtual Advent Prayer Service commenced for both Monday and Thursday mornings for the duration of the Advent Season for those in our community to take part in. This seemingly simple gesture has brought a sense of normalcy to our current abnormal class and community configuration. Day 7 of our Digital Advent Prayer Service highlights this special time and the way it connects us all together, though physically distanced. #advent #adventprayerservice #community #sociallydistanced
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas. Whether you are hanging a stocking or putting out a shoe awaiting some special treats, we could all learn a lesson from St. Nicholas and be more giving to others. There are many in our MCS community who continually exhibit this giving nature. One such notable group are our resilient and brilliant teachers! Day 6 of our Digital Advent Calendar reminds us of the good deeds bestowed upon all by our educators. As we search for treasures in our shoes and stockings, let us remember the treasured teachers that can be found at The Madeleine Choir School. #stnicholas #feastofstnicholas #gooddeeds #educators #successstartsatmcs #secondsundayofadvent
Throughout the school year, each grade level at The Madeleine Choir School completes a service project to help those in need. This year, our 3rd Grade students helped to put the KIND in @christkindlmarktslc by coming together to assemble 35 school and COVID kits. ChristKINDlmarkt-SLC and Navajo Strong have partnered to sponsor the St. Martin’s Project, a community service project that will bring needed resources to the Navajo community during the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis. On our 5th day of our Digital Advent Calendar, we are excited to spotlight these student’s humble service. #serviceproject #stmartinsproject #navajocostrong #americanindianservices #community
Our annual 4th Grade Nativity Play is definitely a community favorite. Not only do students look forward to the year that they get to partake in the play, but they then look forward to being a spectator every other year. This year has changed the way that we do a lot of things here on campus, and those changes have altered the traditional way that this yearly event takes place. But, we couldn't let a year go by without a production of this community treasure. Though it will be in a different format, our students have worked hard to create a fantastic production for our student community to enjoy. On this 15th day of our Digital Advent Calendar, we bring to you some fun snapshots of our students in costume during rehearsal accompanied by their voices in the background. #community #nativityplay #thechristmaspageant #stfrancis #assisi

On this #motivationalmonday we would like to highlight how our school community recently rallied together to complete another amazing service project. We originally had a goal of collecting 100 blankets to donate to East Midvale Elementary School, a highly impacted Title I school in Canyons School District. Not only did we reach this goal, but we smashed it by collecting 150 blankets - that's right, 150 blankets to donate to those in need in our community. On day 14 of our Digital Advent Calendar, we would like to celebrate this accomplishment and hopefully keep the motivation and momentum going when it comes to supporting those around us! #adventcalendar #donation #serviceproject #helpingthoseinneed
Please join us today at 12:15, either in person or virtually, for our last performance of Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols. Distanced seating is available; please arrive at 12noon. Let our choristers bring some light to you during these last days of Advent.
As part of our Mission here at The Madeleine Choir School, we aim to build responsible world citizens who seek to build a civilization of justice, mercy and love. Having our students participate in service projects helps to build the principals to attain that mission. When our students reach 5th Grade, they begin a service project that lasts the entire school year. Each week you can hear and see them running around campus as fast as they can to gather and empty our recycling bins for pickup. They take their job seriously, and keep us on task with this very important civic and global duty to do our part and recycle. On this #motivationalmonday and day 21 of our Digital Advent Calendar, we bring to you pictures of our 5th Grade students taking part in their very important service project. #adventcalendar #serviceproject #recycle #responsibleworldcitizens #successstartsatmcs

Upcoming Events this Week! #merrychristmas🎄
As we approach the final days of our Digital Advent Calendar, we would like for you to enjoy this lighthearted moment from one of our Kindergarten classes. Mrs. Maughan, one of our longest serving music teachers here at The Madeleine Choir School, helps these young students build the foundations of their musical training. She is dedicated to teaching these young students to love music exposing them to a variety of musical genres. Please enjoy day 20 of our Digital Advent Calendar and these adorable little drummers working on their rhythm! #adventcalendar #advent #kindergarten #music 🥁
Our Digital Advent Calendar concludes today with holiday wishes from all of us here at The Madeleine Choir School. We hope that your day is filled with peace, hope, and above all else, LOVE! From all of us to all of you, Merry Christmas! #merrychristmas #adventcalender #hope #love #peace
202 years ago, the much loved song, "Silent Night" was first heard by Austrian villagers attending Christmas Eve Mass in St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf. This simple melody, with its words of comfort and peace, is cherished throughout the world. It's a song about a calm and bright silent night, and the wonder of a tender and mild newborn child. On this eve of Christmas, we pray that you feel comfort and peace wherever you may be. Day 24 of our Digital Advent Calendar brings to you our Schola Choristers singing this beloved song.
At the helm of some pretty fantastic art pieces, Ms. Mattes leads our students through a variety of different art projects. Quite often, a parent favorite is receiving a large envelope full of their child's creations at the end of the school year. Ms. Mattes gives each student the space needed to create and find their individuality. On day 23 of our Digital Advent Calendar we bring to you some vibrant and beautiful art work by some of our students. We've combined Madonna and Child art along with paintings of the poinsettia, known as Flor de Nochebuena in Mexico, or Christmas Eve Flower. We hope you enjoy! #adventcalendar #art #madonnaandchild #poinsettia #flordenochebuena #christmaseveflower 🌟
Harry S. Truman once said, "It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit." The most unsung servants in a community are often its leaders. Together, working tirelessly behind the scenes, they keep our school functioning so that we can provide a premier education to our students even during these difficult times. One of the topics our 4th graders study in music is opera. Last year, our students were in remote learning when it was time to learn about opera so our Director of Music, Melanie Malinka, connected via Zoom with a director and singer our students have worked with over the years, as well as Utah Opera Artistic Director, Christopher McBeth and Education Director, Paula Fowler to give our 4th graders the opportunity to ask some questions about the world of opera. Then 4th grader Evan lead the Q & A session which was later shared with all of his classmates. Want to learn a little about opera? Have a look at the video. #opera #remotelearning #successstartsatmcs #choirschool Utah Opera posted a video to playlist Educational Resources. January 14 at 1:44 PM · What is opera and how does it get even get on the stage? Children's Choir Director Melanie Malinka and 4th Grader Evan from the Madeleine Choir School ask Utah Opera Artistic Director, Utah Opera Director of Education and Outreach, a singer, and a stage director all their biggest questions about opera. Connect your classroom to the opera with our education resources: https://bit.ly/2LxZFGG

This morning six of our St. Gregory choristers joined the Men of the Cathedral Choir for the 11 am Mass at the The Cathedral of the Madeleine. It was wonderful hearing our boys together with our men once again, singing beautiful music by Monteverdi, Duruflé, and Savoy. #cathedralchoir #choirboys #boychoir #choirschool #choristers

It’s so nice having Ms. Mertlich here on campus this year! She’s doing an amazing job teaching our students how to self regulate their feelings with all kinds of amazing tools and practices. Here she is leading some of our older students to be mindful through meditation! 🧘‍♀️ 🧘 #mindfulnesspractice #meditation #successstartsatmcs

Meet Mr. M! He earned the privilege to be Mrs. Randazzo’s special assistant today! He’s been the best assistant, ever! He snapped this cute selfie with his teacher, Miss Partyka today! Good job! #inittowinit #successstartsatmcs #assistant 🙌🏻
Today our school community gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Other traditional names include Candlemas, the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin, and the Meeting of the Lord. Though only one grade level was physically present at the Cathedral, grades 3-8 were able to attend virtually from their classrooms. #feastofthepresentationofthelord #candlemas
Some of our 2nd Grade students learned and discussed a valuable lesson today about how hurtful and unkind words cannot be taken back once said, and can often make things "messy.” Trying to get toothpaste back in the tube was a great way for them to visually learn this valuable lesson! #lifelessons #handson #kindwords #successstartsatmcs

Teamwork makes the dream work! Keeping things real over here in 4th Grade (the beautiful art in the background doesn’t hurt either)! 🦊 ❄️ 🧑🏻‍💻
Sweet #valentinesday messages from Mrs. Randazzo and Dr. Fuoco! 💕♥️💕
What a great way to start our day! Today’s morning assembly was filled with joy and celebration as we welcomed our upper-school students and Judge Memorial (which included some of our own alumni)! Together, we celebrated those who had been accepted to Judge Memorial Catholic High School for next year! A huge shoutout to Corrine Higgins who not only was accepted to Judge, but has been awarded the Centennial Scholarship from JMCHS! We are so proud of all of our students! Way-to-go!! #sucessstartsatmcs #wearemcs #highschool #catholicschoolspride #bulldogs #cathedralcardinals

Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. As Pope Francis reminds us, this time period is, "a return journey to God." Let us not forget that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. Wishing you all a blessed Ash Wednesday. Deseándoles un bendecido Miércoles de Ceniza. #prayfastgive #lentenjourney #ashwednesday
Though we are all staying safely at home today, let’s still enjoy some beautiful winter scenes from our campus! #wearemcs #successstartsatmcs #winterwonderland❄️
School Closure Due to Unsafe Road Conditions Wednesday, February 17, 2021 Hello MCS Community, Unfortunately, the roads continue to be quite treacherous across the valley. Since many of the community members travel from throughout a variety of neighborhoods, it is safest to close today. There will be no virtual classes held. We will try for our virtual snow day implementation next time we have a large storm. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe, Principal Randazzo
‼️DUE TO SNOWY AND UNSAFE ROAD CONDITIONS, MCS WILL BEGIN SCHOOL TODAY AT 10:30 a.m.‼️ ❄️

Our 5th Grade students have had an exciting week! They’ve been able to virtually meet some local VIP’s! Local leaders were invited to join them on zoom to tell them all about their jobs, how a bill becomes a law, and the structure of our government (they have been getting tips on how to pass bills in the Knibbe Congress 😉). They’ve been able to meet Representative Jennifer Daily-Provost, Senators Jani Iwamoto and Derek Kitchen, and Judge Landau - with Representative Brain King joining later this week. 5th Grade students are learning that they have a voice and how to get involved! #utahisrad #utpol #involved #community #thankful

We're going on a hunt... a vocabulary hunt! On this #flashbackfriday we rewind to earlier this week when our 2nd grade students were building their vocabulary in interactive and applicable ways. #vocabularybuilding #interactivelearning #2ndgrade #successstartsatmcs 📝📒📚
Eight years ago today our choristers had the honor of singing a concert at the famous Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany, the church where Bach worked for many years and the home of the famous Thomanerchor. We are longing for the times when we can sing together again in large groups and when we can travel and share our music with friends around the world. Until then we warm our hearts with these kinds of priceless memories. #throwbackthursday #mcsaroundtheworld #mcstours #choirschool #choirtour #Bach #thomaskirche #leipzig #cathedralchoir #memories

Today our Schola choristers had the unique opportunity of working with the composer of two of the pieces they will be singing at Mass this coming Sunday. What an honor it was to be joined by composer and conductor Paul French all the way from Chicago and receiving some first-hand insights on his beautiful compositions. Make sure to tune in on the Cathedral YouTube chanel at 11am on Sunday morning to hear the choristers perform Mr. French's works. #choirschool #livingcomposers #cathedralchoir #choralmusic #choristers
Today we celebrate St. Katharine Drexel. This incredible woman gave her life and resources to support the African American community and the Native American community. May we all live by her example! Today at Mass we were all reminded that she is worth our celebration, prayer, and honor. Grades 3 & 6 were able to attend in-person, while 2, 4, 5, 7, & 8 live streamed from their classrooms. Thank you to those who made this service possible. #katharinedrexel #kindness #love
WED, MAR 24 AT 4:00 PM MDT Pre-k & Kindergarten Open House
What an exciting evening it was yesterday for one of our 6th grade choristers! After learning the newly composed work "Whale Fall" by Xavier Beteta for the last six weeks, Ronak finally got to record this moving piece at the Natural History Museum of Utah. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with #artivism4earth for this project, giving one of our students the ability to use his voice to stand up for our earth, by raising awareness of the impact of climate change. Follow #artivism4earth for more information and for the release of this video on Earth Day. #choirschool #choirboy #earthday #livingcomposers #chorister #artivism

What a fantastic day to celebrate, as the 100th day of school is today! Our First Grade students had so much fun, paper hats and Dr. Suess books - learning away! Having special visitors to read to them lots, they followed along and did not stray! Some students got to help out and be teachers with Ms. Johnson, so many fun ways to celebrate school on this 100th day! #100thdayofschool #drsuess #teacherfortheday #successstartsatmcs #readacrossamericaweek #drsuessweek
