You take the kids to grandma and grandpa’s for Christmas every year. But in the time of the pandemic, you may have decided it’s safer to just call. This can be a tough conversation to have with your children. Make sure they understand the health risks, and how a trip to grandma and grandpas this year could spread COVID-19 to the most vulnerable people in our family. Power through, and assure them that the family will all be together very soon. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares
For people with memory loss or dementia, objects play a special part in recalling old memories. This Christmas, if you’re stopping by, bring something that will remind your loved one of all the holidays you’ve spent together. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares
This is our 3rd annual Christmas video! With everything going on with COVID, the team members at The Madeline of Decatur still wanted to take part in arranging Secret Santa for our residents. All of our residents were "adopted" by team members. Many of our team members adopted multiple residents. Given COVID restrictions, we altered our tradition this year to have one resident at a time sit next to the tree, get their picture taken, and open their gift. One staff member’s family member baked peppermint chocolate-covered pretzels and chocolate pops for the day as well. There were so many wonderful smiles and such beautiful laughter! We have printed off the pictures and are sending them to families so they can rejoice in seeing their loved ones enjoy a beautiful day. It means so much to support our residents, families, and each other to make this holiday season as "normal" as possible! #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares
It’s National Ugly Sweater Day and yes, of course we want to see the most hideous Christmas sweater you’ve been hiding in the back of your closet just for this occasion. Post a picture below, the uglier the better! #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares

Seniors are a lot like us: they enjoy activity and occasionally need their space. Plan things that will keep you both active and happy, like going for a short walk or having a movie night every Monday. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares

National Pizza Day is a special day in February, and we celebrated by making our own pizzas! This activity is great because it serves as a sensory, as well as a social and emotional activity. So many memories were evoked with this activity, and our residents loved stretching and kneading their dough. Each resident was able to pick their own toppings and dress their pizza up how they wanted! #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares
The first African American to serve as president of the Atlanta Board of Education, Benjamin Mays is a foundational but often overlooked figure in black history. Also serving nearly 30 years as the president of Morehouse College, Mays was a champion for education and an inspirational figure to civil rights leaders like MLK. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares #BlackHistoryMonth Credit Howard University.
To conclude #BlackHistoryMonth, we want to highlight a figure who hits close to home. Stacey Abrams played an integral part in combating voter suppression and helping Georgian’s vote in the 2020 election. We celebrate her for her commitment to the ongoing fight for justice and equality. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares

We try to come up with different projects to work on and decided it was time for some sensory art! Residents made sensory bottles and they were entranced with them. There was an assortment of items for our residents to use such as buttons, beads, glitter, charms, gems, and dye for the water. After we finished everyone sat shaking their bottles and talking about what they saw in them. #AventineCares #TheMadelineCares
