BANNED BOOKS WEEK September 27 - October 3, 2020 "Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. It brings together the entire book community β€” librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types β€” in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular... While books have been and continue to be banned, part of the Banned Books Week celebration is the fact that, in a majority of cases, the books have remained available. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read." -ALA website Want to read a banned or challenged book? Call, text, or email me and I'll get one lined up for you! 531-218-7996 thenextchapterbooksandgifts@gmail.com

I am utterly thankful. I am humbled. And, I am proud. I took a moment tonight after I closed my doors to scan the store and take in the day. And what a day it was. As the balloons were deflating, the dust was settling and the sun was setting, I thought, damn, I'm lucky. I am thankful for every single person that walked into my store today. I saw so many friends, family, loyal customers and plenty of new faces that I can't wait to see again. I am proud to live in Omaha and be apart of this community because I saw how important small business and supporting local is to the people of Omaha. Extra shout out to Zen Coffee Company and Willie Dogs and all the awesome vendors who came out today to make my first Independent Bookstore Day so special!! You are all amazing! I am lucky because I am here. But, I'm here because of all of you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. -Shelly
