The New Porsche 911 GT3's Engine Is A Masterpiece
If I were a betting man, I’d bet this is the first Urban Bamboo Chromaflair 992 Turbo S you’ve ever seen. It’s currently only available on the 911 model line via CXX and costs $86,040, making this the most-expensive 992 Turbo S we’ve ever had at $364,170, and yes it is already sold. This paint job is 100% craftsmanship and is applied by hand. Chromaflair pigments include multi-layer flakes that give paints and coatings the ability to change color when viewed from different angles. Each flake exhibits a variety of colors depending on the angle at which it is viewed and the angle of incident light. The flakes are ~1μ (micrometer) thick. A human hair for example is 50 times thicker. The pigment‘s dramatic color effect is visible in a wide variety of light conditions. To create a Chromaflair pigment, a multi-layer interference film is ground into micron-sized flakes. Chromaflair flakes include a center aluminum core layer which is surrounded by a glasslike layer. Changing the thickness of this glass-like layer produces different colors. To maintain the tight color tolerance required by the automotive industry, layer thickness must be controlled within a few atoms. As the person who worked his hardest to try to capture this color accurately, I am totally willing to admit that these pictures still do not do this color total justice. It’s truly something special that needs to be seen in person to be completely appreciated.

Behold the world’s first PTS 992 GT3 - an Azzurro Thetys Metallic (W53) example first shared with the world by the venerable @ap_andypreuninger yesterday and seen by our dear friend Julian @j.b_photography and @levin.liebmann in Weissach - home of Porsche’s Motorsport department. And yes, this example sports both the manual and silver wheels.
But first the color. Azzurro Thetys Metallic is originally a Lamborghini paint, having made its debut on the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster as a communication color. Since then, it has emerged as a Custom Color of growing popularity among Porsches, even gracing some of the highest customized examples such as @mikejgarage’s and @teamgreeeen’s 991 Speedsters. In the current list of approved Custom Colors for the 992, Azzurro Thetys is the lightest metallic blue option, with the next lightest being the much darker Gemini Metallic. This is the only one that skirts between silver and blue, even being affectionately described by Herr Preuninger as the “Silver Arrow.” Versus Dolomite Silver Metallic, Azzurro Thetys Metallic takes on not only a bluer tone as its name suggests, but also a slight sea green undertone at times. It is truly a color to be appreciated in person.
It is also great to see that both @ap_andypreuninger and our dear friend from Weissach with the sweet responsibility of configuring these test cars share this penchant for special colors. Back when Herr Preuninger gave @harrismonkey and @henrycatchpole a cheeky first glimpse of the Shark Blue car, we also had the privilege of seeing the incredible fleet of colorful GT cars of all generations under Motorsport’s guardianship at Weissach. Those cars included a PTS Iris Blue 991 GT3 Touring, a PTS San Marino Blue Metallic 991.2 GT3 RS, and a PTS British Racing Green 911 R. There is simply no better testament to the pure enthusiasm for special colors that the talented team from Weissach shares with us.

Back when Herr Preuninger gave @harrismonkey and @henrycatchpole a cheeky first glimpse of the Shark Blue car, we also had the privilege of seeing the incredible fleet of colorful GT cars of all generations under Motorsport’s guardianship at Weissach. Those cars included a PTS Iris Blue 991 GT3 Touring, a PTS San Marino Blue Metallic 991.2 GT3 RS, and a PTS British Racing Green 911 R. There is simply no better testament to the pure enthusiasm for special colors that the talented team from Weissach shares with us.

The New Porsche 911 GT3's Engine Is A Masterpiece
If I were a betting man, I’d bet this is the first Urban Bamboo Chromaflair 992 Turbo S you’ve ever seen. It’s currently only available on the 911 model line via CXX and costs $86,040, making this the most-expensive 992 Turbo S we’ve ever had at $364,170, and yes it is already sold. This paint job is 100% craftsmanship and is applied by hand. Chromaflair pigments include multi-layer flakes that give paints and coatings the ability to change color when viewed from different angles. Each flake exhibits a variety of colors depending on the angle at which it is viewed and the angle of incident light. The flakes are ~1μ (micrometer) thick. A human hair for example is 50 times thicker. The pigment‘s dramatic color effect is visible in a wide variety of light conditions. To create a Chromaflair pigment, a multi-layer interference film is ground into micron-sized flakes. Chromaflair flakes include a center aluminum core layer which is surrounded by a glasslike layer. Changing the thickness of this glass-like layer produces different colors. To maintain the tight color tolerance required by the automotive industry, layer thickness must be controlled within a few atoms. As the person who worked his hardest to try to capture this color accurately, I am totally willing to admit that these pictures still do not do this color total justice. It’s truly something special that needs to be seen in person to be completely appreciated.

World's 1st paint-to-sample 992 GT3!

Behold the world’s first PTS 992 GT3 - an Azzurro Thetys Metallic (W53) example first shared with the world by the venerable @ap_andypreuninger yesterday and seen by our dear friend Julian @j.b_photography and @levin.liebmann in Weissach - home of Porsche’s Motorsport department. And yes, this example sports both the manual and silver wheels.
But first the color. Azzurro Thetys Metallic is originally a Lamborghini paint, having made its debut on the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster as a communication color. Since then, it has emerged as a Custom Color of growing popularity among Porsches, even gracing some of the highest customized examples such as @mikejgarage’s and @teamgreeeen’s 991 Speedsters. In the current list of approved Custom Colors for the 992, Azzurro Thetys is the lightest metallic blue option, with the next lightest being the much darker Gemini Metallic.
