Cancer Support Community of Ann Arbor presents an Educational Series: Cancer Rehab and “Prehab”

This is an entry level position that will allow you to get a look inside the rehab world of treating a variety of diagnosis including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and neuromuscular diseases. Candidate requirements include:
*Must be 18 years or older with high school diploma
*Must have availability between 8:30-5 M-Th and 8-4 F (currently have part time hours available, but we work with student’s schedules)
*Must be dependable, compassionate, capable of developing strong relationships and communicating with people of all abilities and statures of life
*CPR certification and TB test required
*Must be physically able to assist with transferring patients (lifting 50+ lbs)
*An interest in a profession in the medical field is preferred (PT, OT, SLP, MT, social work, nursing, physician assistant, and pre-medical students)

Our Oncology Rehabilitation Team is certified to treat symptoms related to all cancers and its treatment, while providing one-on-one care, including:
· Prehab benefits to assess for functional tolerance, risk factors, education and safe activity
· Manual, hands on treatment to the breast, chest wall and shoulder post breast surgery
o lumpectomy, mastectomy, and all reconstructive surgeries
· Reducing the effects from chemotherapy toxicity
o fatigue, neuropathy and deconditioning
· Evidence-based management of neuropathy using specialized equipment modalities
o FES - Functional Electrical Stimulation
o Infrared Light Therapy
o Vibration Plate Therapy
· Managing side effects from radiation therapy
o fatigue, pain and skin changes
· Joint and muscle pain
o side effects from Tamoxifen and Aromatase Inhibitors
· Exercise interventions to improve strength, balance, and gait
· Manual therapy to improve range of motion, decrease pain, and manage edema
· Cognitive interventions to minimize the effects of “chemobrain”
· Fall prevention
· Speech-Language Pathology Services for dysphagia due to head and neck cancer
o swallowing maneuvers and strategies
o oral and pharyngeal exercises with or without NMES(Vital Stim)
o diet modification
o intraoral prosthesis, if needed
· Interventions and strategies to address urinary incontinence
· Strategies to decrease cancer related fatigue, conserve energy, and optimize cardiovascular function
· Family and care partner education
· Coping strategies
