About

The Refrigeration School, Inc. (RSI), located in Phoenix, Arizona, has trained individuals to become professional, entry-level Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) technicians since 1965. RSI is pleased to offer our Welding Specialist program in December 2017. RSI has since expanded its training and now offers multiple career-focused training opportunities. RSI’s instructors are experienced industry professionals. RSI’s training programs are designed based on industry feedback to meet employers’ needs. RSI promotes a student-centric learning environment to support the learner who desires to put forth a great deal of effort to achieve his or her desired professional goals.

The Refrigeration School was established to train entry-level Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) technicians. The Refrigeration School added the Electrical Technologies and Electro-Mechanical Technologies courses in 1986 and 1987 respectively, to respond to the growing demand for entry-level electricians and facility maintenance technicians. In 1992 the school made an additional commitment and developed the Associate of Occupational Studies degree program in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering.

The RSI campus which is easily accessible from all parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area, includes two buildings with 21,000 square feet of classroom, lab, and support service facilities. An additional 5,400 square feet of outdoor shop area brings the total to over 26,000 square feet of training facilities.

We at RSI want to ensure that your education experience is a rewarding one. Please note that RSI offers ample support to all its students. We wish you the best in achieving your educational and professional goals.

We wash our hands a lot. One job site I worked at required a face shield worn at all times while inside the building. Things have changed a lot, and safety procedures have been put in place because of this pandemic."

When Javonte Obrien had decided he’d had enough of jobs in warehouses and security, and that a traditional 4-year university wasn’t for him, he enrolled in the Welding Specialist program at RSI. Every week he had something new to learn. Even though he had never tried welding before, the instructors at RSI pushed him not just to become a welder—but a great welder. After graduation, Javonte got a job at Pro Steel Erectors in Chandler, AZ, allowing him to take better care of his family. Javonte plans to become more experienced in structural welding and pipe welding over the next few years and eventually move back to California to pursue more high-paying welding jobs. Javonte’s advice to new RSI welding students: “Be confident in yourself and your work. Be adaptable. Working hard always pay off. It will get you somewhere good. Stay motivated, keep your head high and do the work that no one else wants to. Never give up. There were times going through school when it was tough. But it’s your money that you’re paying, and this is a skill you can use for the rest of your life.”
Eventually, an HVAC mistake is inevitable!
