Prevention of Substance Use and Mental Disorders
Did you know? According to SAMHSA, in 2018, nearly 1 in 5 people aged 12 or older (19.4 percent) used an illicit drug in the past year, which is a higher
percentage than in 2015 and 2016.
Studies show that the earlier an individual starts smoking, drinking or using other drugs, the greater the likelihood of developing addiction. We all have a part to play in creating a better tomorrow for our youth by using resources to educate ourselves and our family. October emphasizes the importance of substance abuse prevention and encourages prevention efforts this month and every other month of the year.

With October being both #NationalSubstanceAbusePreventionMonth and #EmotionalWellnessMonth, we want to highlight the role mental health plays in emotional wellness and substance abuse.
According to SAMHSA, more than 1 in 4 adults living with serious mental health problems also have a substance use problem, and without proper mental health treatment, one's emotional wellness can deteriorate.
Effectively managing both our mental health and emotional health can help us to eliminate stress, fear, anxiety, anger, depression, and worry. Although a licensed professional is the best place to start when working on your mental or emotional health, here are 5 tips you can try at home today!
