The Ridge Pinehurst's sip and paint class has become very popular with residents. Recently we painted a scene with the Eiffel Tower and a sunset – all while enjoying a glass of red or white wine! 🍷🎨
Tapas Tasting Happy Hour! The Ridge Pinehurst's new tapas menu is rolling out and residents were able to try some of the new appetizers – including duck confit sliders and mini tacos. They met new friends and enjoyed the food, while getting a description from our Chef, Chesney. Residents then had the chance to rate the food and decide if it be added to the final menu!
Staff Spotlight | Katrissa started her health care career in 1982. She is a licensed registered nurse in multiple states, has her Colorado Nursing Home Administrator license, Assisted Living certification, Dementia Care certification, and is a Resident Assessment Coordinator–Certified (RAC-CT). She firmly believes in positivity, transformational leadership and team building, resulting in open communication and enhanced working environments.

Why Seniors Learn a New Language in Retirement | The Ridge
The Ridge Pinehurst hosted a live Thanksgiving week piano performance by Cat Paz. She played the piano and also did a sing-a-long. Everyone sung classic and holiday songs together and had so much fun! The residents socially distanced while taking part in the performance from the couches near the piano.

The Ridge Pinehurst is full of creative residents! Last month residents used acrylic paints to make their own fall color and then used a stencil to capture a fall leaf so you can see the candle inside. This is a great craft for gift giving around the holidays, and a fun decoration for their home. We listened to some light jazz music and told stories while crafting!
Today we remember the bravery and selflessness of our country's service members who were lost or injured during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Residents recently enjoyed our “Hot Cider & Mendiants Social”! We had hot cider and mendiants for residents to take to-go. Mendiants are a Jewish holiday treat which are made from chocolate, nuts and dried fruit. So delicious!
We are getting into the holiday spirit with a cookie cutting and decorating party! 🎄 Residents listened to Christmas music and rolled out the dough, cut the cookies, and baked them. Once the cookies were done, they packaged them in individual baggies and took them to-go.

They are a phenomenal trio of guitarist who played a lot of classic songs that everyone loved, all while maintaining social distancing. We had another great day at the Ridge this Wednesday. Construction on our future phases is coming along nicely and lets face it, this is never a bad view to end the day!
When was the last time you heard live music?! We were so excited to host “Close n’ Counter” last night at the Ridge! They are a phenomenal trio of guitarist who played a lot of classic songs that everyone loved, all while maintaining social distancing. Any opportunity to hear live music is great especially when it’s a 1 minute walk from your front door!

Our resident spotlight this week features Mr. Fred Thibodeau and Dr. Rebecca Chopp!
-Fred was born in New Britain, Connecticut. He served in the military and attended Kansas St and St Paul where he went to seminary and met Rebecca. Rebecca was born in Salina, Kansas and attended Kansas Wesleyan and the University of Chicago.
-They were best friends for years before getting married and have been together 25 years.
-Fred has had his own ministry and worked as a development officer in higher education. Rebecca has worked as a President in higher education and most recently as Chancellor of University of Denver.
-They have 3 sons that live in Ft. Collins and San Jose. They also have a rescue cat that goes by “Kitty”.
-Their favorite parts about living at the ridge include everything from the views, the food, the building, the amenities and specifically the helpful staff and concierge team.
-They have travelled all over the world from Europe to Asia but their favorite place to be is in the mountains. Rebecca loves to hike and Fred can be found hiking or reading a book.
-One piece of wisdom they would like to impart on todays generation: Rebecca- “Be just as committed to the community and the common good, as you our to yourself”. Fred- “With technology, it has become harder to interact. Learn how to talk and listen with people. They are critical skills and we need to do it more today”

“Paint and Sip” is one of our most popular activities here at The Ridge. Residents can learn how to paint for the first time or ‘brush’ up on their brush skills. Bad jokes are not included in the class, fortunately. Wine always makes everything more fun too!
Our employee spotlight this week is with Brittni Uribes!
-Brittni just moved into our Resident Care Coordinator role and we are so happy to have her be a part of our team!
-She was born in Denver and has lived here her whole life. She attended Legacy HS in Broomfield.
-She has been working in resident care for over 10 years.
- She has 2 brothers and 2 sisters all living in Colorado as well as her parents.
- Her favorite part of working at the Ridge is meeting all the new residents and getting to be friends with them.
- Being a native, she loves hiking and watching football; especially the Chiefs but the Broncos as well!
-When she is not working, she enjoys making flower arrangements. Her favorite are red roses.
-Brittni’s ancestry is Italian so her favorite food is pasta over everything else.

We were fortunate enough to host the Wick School of Irish Dance at The Ridge and they brought the Irish spirit of dance with them! The girls range in age and gave us a phenomenal performance of authentic Irish dances. The residents had a blast and were able to learn some history of the island as well!

This week’s Employee Spotlight features our very own Loretta Barton!
-Loretta works as one of our Environmental Services Associates and has been here since we opened back in August.
-She was born in Los Angeles but grew up here in Denver and graduated from Sheridan high school very near to us.
-Her hobbies include reading books, especially her favorite author James Patterson. She is also an avid bowler and once scored a 289 in a tournament. She also loves spending time with her 9 grandchildren.
-Her favorite part about working at The Ridge is not only being available and helping out the residents in anyway, but forming friendships and lasting bonds with every resident.
-Her dream vacation is Jamaica, enjoying the beaches and soaking up the sun with no kids.
-Her favorite food is Mexican, which is the only right answer to this question.

Our construction partners at Shaw Construction LLC have been working tirelessly to get our phase 2 completed! We are looking to open this summer with a brand new Independent Living building that will include forty-six 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. A gorgeous 2 story sports bar/pub will also be opening called the ‘Skywood’. Dry wall is currently going up and we are very excited! Our resident spotlight focuses on one of very first residents, George and Barbara Freimann!
-They have been at The Ridge since we opened back in August and are very involved in the community and various activities here. One of their favorites being painting, several of which you can see outside of their apartment.
- George was born in Klinzy, Russia. He and his family left Klinzy during WWII and traveled by horse and buggy for 2 years and finally settled in Eichstaedt, Germany, before coming to the US in 1958. He lived in Milwaukee and was in the army where he was stationed in Germany for 2 years. He is a graduate of Ohio State University. Barbara was born in Cleveland and graduated from Baldwin Wallace college where she majored in German. She met George at the Deutsche Zentral dance and they have been together ever since. She taught German and Science for Middle School.
Their jobs with the government have taken them all over the world and have lived in Luxembourg (George’s favorite), Austria, Germany, and Vienna (Barbara’s favorite) among several other places. They spent a total of 12 years overseas where all 3 of their children were born.
-Their favorite parts of the ridge are the lazy river, how everything is new at the Ridge, and being able to be here since it opened and be a part of the culture and community from the beginning.
-They enjoy a lot of movies and TV but their favorites are Chicago Med, Fire, and PD.
-Their advice to the younger generation is to “be careful what you say and post on social media.”
