In the coming weeks, we will be partnering with Walgreens to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to our residents and staff members. Building defense against COVID-19 in our building and in the community at large is a team effort. And you are a part of that defense. If you have questions regarding the vaccinations or our upcoming clinics, please call our Community directly.
Did you know that today is the most celebrated holiday of the year, around the world? We're excited to ring in the new year with our residents!
The best part about 2020 was meeting you! So thankful for all our Facebook Family and the joy you all bring to us.
From the CDC: Your best protection from COVID-19 will be a combination of getting a COVID-19 vaccine, wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet away from others, avoiding crowds, and washing your hands often. No one tool alone is going to stop the pandemic. Learn about the Benefits of COVID-19 Vaccination: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/vaccine-benefits.html

Lead the Way! Getting the COVID-19 vaccine adds one more layer of protection for you, our employees, other residents, and family. In the coming weeks, we will be partnering with Walgreens to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to our residents and staff members. If you have questions regarding the vaccinations or our upcoming clinics, please call our Community directly.
From the CDC: None of the COVID-19 vaccines currently in development in the United States uses the live virus that causes COVID-19. You may have symptoms like a fever after you get a vaccine. This is normal and a sign that your immune system is learning how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. Leading the Way! Civitas Senior Living is proud to announce that, as of today, all but one of our communities nationwide have completed their first-round vaccination clinics. The one community is in Colorado and will host their first-round clinic this Thursday. Additionally, by January 29th 39% of all our communities nationwide will have completed their second-round vaccination clinics, and by February 5th this number jumps to 66% completion for second-round vaccination clinics. If you have questions regarding the vaccinations or our upcoming clinics, please call our Community directly.
Diving Into The Decades: 1900-1909
All right cooking fans, this week we have a particularly unique recipe for you to try that was very popular in 1900, the Orange Omelet. The recipe we are sharing is from the Boston Cooking-School Cookbook 1900 edition.
3 eggs
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 1/2 tablespoons orange juice
Few grains salt
2 oranges
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/2 tablespoon butter for cooking
Beat 3 eggs, until thick and lemon colored. Add in lemon, orange juice, and salt. Cook like you would a traditional omelet.
Remove skin from oranges and cut in slices, lengthwise. Fold in one-third of the slices of orange, well sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Garnish with remaining orange slices and dust it with powdered sugar.
We hope you enjoyed this unique recipe! Stay tuned to learn more about the decades! #DivingIntoTheDecades

Picture this - 1904 a new game hits the market. Parents and kids head to the local mercantile to pick up The Landlords Game. 117 years pass and this game is still number one on the list of most popular board games of all time.
Surprised that you haven't heard of it? You may know it by its later name: Monopoly! That's right, this super popular game had its humble beginnings as "The Landlords Game" and wasn't rebranded as Monopoly until 1933. Don't you just love history?! #DivingIntoTheDecades

Diving Into The Decades
Residents are excited to be "Diving into the Decades" with us! From that decade, we are trying foods, studying fashion, and learning all about the world events that happened through those 30 years! Stay tuned for photos, videos, and stories!
Diving Into The Decades: 1910-1919
This month we are learning about a decade that is largely defined by the first world war. Despite the incomprehensible devastation of this era, it did bring about some technological advances, new fashions, and food staples that we see today!
If you were thrown back in time to 1914, you would likely still see more trolleys and horse-drawn carriages on the streets than any other type of vehicle. Children would be enjoying Oreo Cookies, Sherbert, and Wrigley's Doublemint Gum for the first time. Adults would be tapping their toes to the beat of Jazz and watching movies that were filmed in what is now Hollywood.
Once the war started, families were disrupted as fathers were drafted, women went to work in factories, and the older children took care of household chores. The changes it brought about in every aspect of life won this decade the name of The Progressive Era. Quite fitting, don't you think? #DivingIntoTheDecades
Happy Activity Professionals week!! The Ridglea would not be the same without Ashlee Moore and Alyse Richards. We are blessed to have them and they are always there to help the residents and our team. Thank you for all you do! #PassionateEmployee

Johnny Gruelle wrote the book Raggedy Ann for his daughter, Marcella, in 1918. The story goes that Marcella brought her dad an old rag doll and he drew a face on it for her, and thus was born "Raggedy Ann."
The original rag doll is now worth over $1,000. Over time, her looks changed and by 1960, Raggedy Ann had red hair, a flowered dress, and a white apron. Quite different than her humble beginnings, but cute none the less. #DivingIntoTheDecades

Governor Abbott’s Announcement:
We are aware of Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-34 that ends the statewide mask mandates and allows all businesses to open to 100%. Also, in the order it states that “Businesses may still limit capacity or implement additional safety protocols at their discretion.” Aside from this new order, Assisted Living and Long-Term Care Communities in Texas are regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and must also follow County orders that may be more stringent than those of HHSC. At this time HHSC has not released any updated guidance regarding changes in the current COVID-19 response requirements and regulations in licensed Assisted Living and Long-Term Care Communities. Therefore, we are required to continue to follow the regulations set forth by HHSC and will continue to communicate with the agency regularly and update residents, families, and staff members with any change in the regulation and Community protocols.

The Roaring Twenties were a golden era of fashion. WWI left women desiring a simple, comfortable lifestyle and a fashion style that reflected the new modern age, where young women outnumbered the older Edwardian generation. 1920s fashion was made by the young and free-spirited youth who discarded their corsets and showed off their jazz dancing legs. This was also the era that brought about the “flappers.” This month, our residents will learn about the fashion, food, and famous faces of the 1920s! #DivingIntoTheDecades

The Ridglea Cottage had quite an experience with our Spice Club! It's awesome to hear the conversations as the residents enjoy smelling these spices. Here are some quotes from the residents:
“I use garlic on most of my meat products”
“I like garlic on bagels”
“My kids would like to help me cook. They would help set the table.”
“I like bbq ribs”
“I’ve been cooking since I was 4 or 5 with my grandmother.”
We will be planting herbs in the upcoming weeks for fresh “farm” to table smells, until then, Chef Tom is preparing our mixes for the senses!
It was interesting to see some of the residents enjoy the smell and some who immediately scrunched their noses. We reminisced and laughed with the care staff about the differing cooking capabilities during our Spice Club Time.

And every great product comes from amazing teamwork! Thank you to Anthony, Tracey, Nichol, and Ashlee for helping with the back-drop!
The Employee Engagement Program allows the department heads to select an activity they want to host for the residents. Our Maintenance Director, Sergio, wanted to paint a palm tree with the assisted living residents. He did such a great job and the residents enjoyed the process of following along to create their masterpiece! They also enjoyed a refreshing coke while the paint was drying. Thank you to our Director of Resident Engagement, Ashlee, for setting up the activity! #ArtThrobsClub #FortWorth #RetirementGoals
In the 1920s almost everybody danced, and because everyone was dancing, they needed a dance that almost anyone could do. Thus was created the Fox Trot. It's basically walking but can be done at all different tempos! Do you know the Fox Trot?
