There are only so many sunrises left for us. We should get up for as many of them as we can.
Especially since we live in a city that brings us mornings like this one.

A bagpipe tribute to the fallen firefighters of September 11th.
When most ran from the flames and the wreckage, they ran into them, without pause.
343 never made it out.
We owe them and their families a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.
But one thing we can do is to never forget them.
**Amazing Grace performed by The Pipes And Drums Of The Military Band Of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
**Video montage by Michael: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7_4jBeWciXnXtHjLgufVQw
“The bagpipes are a large part of what took place after 9/11. All three pipe bands — PAPD, NYPD and FDNY — played at every single funeral, memorial service and dedication pertaining to 9/11,” said Brian Ahern, a piper in the PAPD pipe band. “It was our job to provide a proper sendoff to those who passed away that day and provide the families with closure.”

We are proud and excited to announce that The Scottish Plumber has been awarded Home Advisor's most prestigious prize, the 'Best of Home Advisor' award, for the year 2020.
In a year full of challenges which most of us couldn't even imagine, we're especially grateful for this recognition, because it came from you.
We know that many of you are essential workers yourselves, putting your health on the line so that our communities can continue to live semi-normal lives in the midst of this pandemic. And we knew we had to make sure that we were there for you, too.
We knew that after a 12-hour shift at the hospital, you deserved a hot shower when you got home. That after grueling shifts on the factory floor, or behind the grocery store counter, the last thing you wanted to deal with was a clogged drain or a flooded basement.
We knew that we had to make it work. And our employees responded to that call. They never wavered. They put on their gloves and their masks and they reported to work. Every single day. And we are so proud of them.
So thank you to all of our staff, and our customers, and all of our front line and essential workers. It's good to know that when the road becomes rough, we've got each others' backs.

Halloween - or Hallowe'en, as in All Hallows' Eve - is a Scottish term, first recorded in print in 1556 (where it's spelled, almost unrecognizably, "Halhalon.")
The term became more popular when the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns, wrote a poem titled "Halloween" in 1785. The poem is often recited on this day in Scotland, and deftly mixes the English and Scots languages.
It begins:
Upon that night, when fairies light
On Cassilis Downans dance,
Or owre the lays, in splendid blaze,
On sprightly coursers prance;
Or for Colean the route is ta'en,
Beneath the moon's pale beams;
There, up the cove, to stray and rove,
Among the rocks and streams
To sport that night.
Happy and safe Halloween, everyone!

Soldiers of the U.S. 369th Infantry Regiment, or Harlem Hell-Fighters in 1918.
Made up of Black soldiers and officers, the regiment was nicknamed the Black Rattlers. The French called them Men of Bronze. The Germans they fought called them Hell-Fighters (Höllenkämpfer.)
During World War I, the 369th spent 191 days in frontline trenches, more than any other American unit. They also suffered the most losses of any American regiment with 1,500 casualties.
Because many White Americans would not fight with this all Black unit, in April of 1918, the US Army assigned the Hell-fighters to the French army, for the duration of the war. The French treated these men like any other French soldiers.
For the 369th, Hell-fighter was no idle boast. These soldiers earned their reputation for hard fighting and were awarded one Medal of Honor, many Distinguished Service Crosses, and 170 Croix de Guerre.

On this day, we wanted to take a minute to give special thanks to our own veterans. They are men of honor and integrity and we are so lucky to have them be part of our team.
Paul Van Cleave, our dispatcher, served in the Navy. He was an Electrician's Mate 3rd Class. He was stationed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 and did two westpacs to the Middle East.
Ian Burkhart, our warehouse manager, served in the Marine Corps. Last duty station was HMM 764 Edwards Air Force Base. He trained with Crew Chiefs as a gunner on CH-46.
We salute them and thank them for their service. Our nation and our company are stronger because of these men. Thank you, Paul and Ian!

If you live in Chicago and have a lead water service line that you're looking to replace, you may qualify for a program that waives the permit fees, which can be quite expensive.
For more info, or to see if you qualify, check out the attached article.
And FYI, The Scottish Plumber has underground boring technology that allows us to bore and pull a new water line through from the street to the home without having to dig a trench the length of the entire pipe.
With our technology, we only have to dig an access hole at the b-box and at the water meter, and the rest of your landscaping remains untouched.
To schedule a free estimate, call us at 888-451-6137, send us a message, or use the appointment form on our website at www.scottishplumber.com .

Legend has it that St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland and chased them into the sea. We can only hope that the Irish are still able to snake their toilets.

The Highland cow (or "Highland coo" as the Scots call it) is a Scottish breed of rustic cattle. It originated in the Scottish Highlands and the Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland.
It is a hardy breed, with long horns and a long shaggy coat, and is bred to withstand the intemperate conditions in the region.
They're also quite adorable.
