This year’s World Mental Health Day comes at a time when our daily lives have changed considerably as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The past months have brought many challenges: for health-care workers, providing care in difficult circumstances, going to work fearful of bringing COVID-19 home with them; for students, adapting to taking classes from home, with little contact with teachers and friends, and anxious about their futures; for workers whose livelihoods are threatened; for the vast number of people caught in poverty or in fragile humanitarian settings with extremely limited protection from COVID-19; and for people with mental health conditions, many experiencing even greater social isolation than before. And this is to say nothing of managing the grief of losing a loved one, sometimes without being able to say goodbye.
Please take today and examine how your mental health is. Take some time for yourself, meditate, explore nature, or to just be good to yourself.

The yearly tradition of our art show and auction has become a favorite every year. But, 2020 had different plans. We can't open the doors to our community and showcase all of the masterpieces created. We can't enjoy time socializing with our loved ones and friends inside AVSF. So we did what we do best at AlmaVia. We got creative! We are bringing the show to you!
Now, you'll have the chance to bid on these beautiful pieces of artwork created and inspired by our residents from your homes. Beginning tomorrow, October 23 at 8:00 a.m. silent auction bidding will begin online. You'll have until October 30 at 8:00 p.m. to try to secure your favorite piece of artwork.
All proceeds from the event will benefit our programming at AlmaVia of San Francisco. Our Resident Committee has also decided to donate a portion of their proceeds to benefit an organization near and dear to their hearts, the San Francisco SPCA.

There are 22 countries around the world where voting is mandatory, like Australia, Costa Rica, and Greece. The United States had an abysmal 60.1% voter turnout in the 2016 presidential election — slightly down from its highest turnout in the last 50 years, which was only 61.65% in 2008.

The first Tuesday in November seems kind of arbitrary for Election Day, right? Not so. When our country was founded, residents in rural America had to travel a significant distance to get to a county seat to vote.
Since traveling on Sunday was not expected, giving constituents Monday to travel made Tuesday an ideal day for voting. Farmers were also the driver behind selecting the month of November. It falls when the harvest is over, but the weather is still good enough to travel.

San Mateo County is offering a drive-through first-dose vaccination opportunity for eligible members of our community who are San Mateo County residents aged 65 and older.
The vaccine is free and available to any San Mateo County resident aged 65 or older, regardless of health care provider or insurance coverage.
Residents must register in advance and bring a photo ID showing date of birth. No walk-up or on-site registration is available, and persons not meeting the eligibility criteria will have their appointments canceled and be turned away.
We know information about the vaccine, including where and when it is available, is changing rapidly. If you cannot attend this event, more opportunities will be available in the future.

UPDATE: The 2/19 vaccine clinic at SFO for county residents 65+ and healthcare workers is full and not accepting appointments or spots on a standby or wait list. Existing appointments will go forward with doses the county has on hand. Future clinics depend on receipt of vaccine supply.

San Mateo County is offering a drive-through first-dose vaccination opportunity for eligible members of our community who are San Mateo County residents aged 65 and older.
The vaccine is free and available to any San Mateo County resident aged 65 or older, regardless of health care provider or insurance coverage.
Residents must register in advance and bring a photo ID showing date of birth. No walk-up or on-site registration is available, and persons not meeting the eligibility criteria will have their appointments canceled and be turned away.
We know information about the vaccine, including where and when it is available, is changing rapidly. If you cannot attend this event, more opportunities will be available in the future.
