Smoking is the biggest risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It increases your risk of both developing and dying from COPD. COPD is a chronic disease that can cause long-term disability and early death. And while there is no cure for COPD, it is often preventable and treatable. If you are concerned about getting COPD, ❌ Stop smoking & don’t start. ❌ Avoid secondhand smoke. ❌ Be aware of other dangers such as chemicals, dust and fumes. If you are experiencing chronic cough, frequent respiratory infections, wheezing and other symptoms it’s time to schedule an appointment with a pulmonologist. Visit infirmaryhealth.org/medicalclinics to find a specialist in your area.

As directed by Gov. Kay Ivey, Infirmary Health will begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to citizens who are 75 years or older, first responders and law enforcement by appointment only, effective January 18. Information on appointment availability will be published the moment it is available, as Infirmary Health works to double its vaccine capacity. If you have questions about whether you qualify, please visit https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/vaccine.html
Infirmary Health is administering vaccines based on Alabama Public Health's (ADPH) COVID-19 Vaccination Allocation Plan. At this time, we continue to vaccinate all persons who fall into Phase 1A. Phase 1A includes • Frontline health workers, including clinical and non‐clinical, in hospitals, nursing homes, or those providing in in‐home or mental health care directly. • Workers in other healthcare settings providing services with a risk of exposure to fluids and aerosols The ADPH will determine when the vaccine administration will move to the next phase. Alabama's Vaccination Allocation Plan with the priority phases and as well as updates on vaccine availability can be found at alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/vaccine.html.
